Looks like Tyutin is ahead of Witt & White. Girardi is ahead of White and Tyutin is only 7 hits behind Orpik. So why is our D soft now?

Thanks for that info Pru.

Jason Smith is old, slow, and will want too much money. PASS!

JOrts, I know you love the game and love speculating on moves, but can we hold off on offseason speculation until we're actually in the offseason? Seriously, you're just gonna piss people off.

great info....the only thing is that both witt have missed significant time this year....which only shows how much more valuable girardi and tyutin are.....

and to the first question.....no to jason smith

but i would go after joni pitkanen

Well the Hits 82 column is the amount of hits based on 82 games played.

that's the reason why they stopped recording hits like 7 years ago. Tyutin and Girardi are nowhere near as physical as those 3, the MSG statmen are probably just more hit-happy.

I would go for Jason Smith, but it likely won't work money-wise.

Gee, I thought he looked like a turnstile on Sunday.

In fairness to Jason Smith, he's playing on one leg and has been for quite some time. If the team wasn't suffering from so many injuries, I doubt that he'd be playing. He's a very good captain and a guy every team would like to have, but he's a bottom pairing defenseman at this point in his career and he'll be paid on leadership and reputation.

I hope you are right. Jason Smith just clogs up a spot for a younger player. If we can get a defenseman in his mid to late 20s like Orpik or Commodore I'd be all for it, but signing a guy who has one foot in retirement makes no sense to me.

yeah the ideal thing would be to get someone in their late 20s ie around rozsival's age so the veteran guys can be around for a number of years WITH the kids and not just temporary additions.

but as far as blocking another youngster, i think people have to keep in mind that we are never gonna have a blueline with 6 guys under 25. i know its hf and we always discuss where each kid is gonna fit but it simply isn't gonna happen there has to be veteran leadership in there.

i think for next year if we have rosy, staal, tyutin and girardi plus another vet and 1 spot up for grabs for sauer, baranka, sanguinetti, etc to fight for we should be more than happy about the amount of 'youth' on the blueline

i still want pitkanen.......he isnt old...only 24, but he is a good young defencman who can play anywhere on the back end from 1-6 and he can be the point on the pp.....he has been playing for 4 or 5 years alread and he could be exactly what the rangers need...... a pp quarterback and a top 2 defender

yea lets trade our future for him instead of developing our own Pitkanen. Pitkanen would cost Dubinsky and Tyutin to start, no thanks.

Yeah it would probably take Dubinsky, Tyutin, Lundqvist and Cherry to land a Pitkanen.
