Yup. Even when you consider he's (now) 20 years old and playing in the OHL, his season is still quite impressive all things considered. I think he's genuinely got a shot at being a 3rd liner some day if he continues this type of play.

Vitaly Abramov........... 2 thoughts

This kid seems like the real deal

His coach said "I can't believe he lasted until the third round."

Remember Kole got off to a tremendous start last season before it all fell apart...offensively speaking. 11 Gs and 26 Points in his first 25 Games. Then just 1 G and 9 Points in his last 38 Games.

I remember asking last year why Kole had such a great start to his Juniors career and then the season fell of a cliff. Someone who actually watches the Knights said Kole was shifted down in the lineup so his line mates were not as skilled, he was getting less playing time and that his role had changed.

Just a guess but perhaps this season he has had the chance to run with the top line all year with scoring being his primary role. Could be a huge difference. I mean his number are still up and his being an older second year player doesn't concern me...still just his second Juniors year.

I wonder if he makes the jump to Cleveland next season or stays for his over-age year in Canada.

I would hope that Kole is ready to play in Cleveland next year. Shoot, we should have a spot certainly open for him there with all of these PTO's that Cleveland has been having to use. Believe him, Keegan Kolesar, and Calvin Thurkauf are eligible to play in Cleveland next year. We will also see if the Blue Jackets elect to try and sign Kevin Stenlund to a entry level contract.

On a side note, I've read from Buccigross that Kole's brother Kiefer has elected to stay another year at Miami of Ohio instead of signing an NHL deal. Had 38 points in 36 games this year. Will turn 22 here in the next couple of days.

How awesome would it be to have a pair of Ohio brothers on the jackets?

I LOVE Kiefer Sherwood. He's a great player, and fits our style perfectly- he's like a faster Boone.

Should've traded for Tom Fritsche while we had the chance.

I don't really get the system how long franchises retain the rights of a player without signing them as it depends on age and where they play.

I'm posting because I wonder if the Bluejackets are in danger of losing Elvis Merzlikins. Been the best goaltender over in Switzerland for the 2nd straight year. Usually comes up huge for the playoffs or international games with Latvia. Despite his success, he doesn't seem to have the intention of joining the Bluejackets. Has a contract until 2019 in Lugano...without an NHL clause.

In AP's last chat someone asked about Vitalii playing in C-Bus and AP suggested he could see him paying well in Cleveland next season and getting a call up at some point. I assumed that Vitalii would stay one more year in Juniors...partially because he isn't even nineteen yet and partially because at 5'9" 170 Lbs I figured he needed more physical development time.

I just think about how Milano probably would have benefitted from one more Juniors season and would hate to see us rush Vitalii when there is no rush. I know 90+ points two seasons in a row screams...promote...nothing new to learn here...just not sure he's ready for the jump to big boys.

Where do you all see Vitalii next season?

Unless Porty knows something I don't, Abramov is not eligible to play in Cleveland next year.

Seen from CBJ Prospects on twitter...

Vladislav Gavrikov had the game winning goal and an assist yesterday in a win for his team in the KHL playoffs.

From stats he had 7 points in 54 games during the regular season.. Has 5 points in 10 playoff games this year so far.

I've heard nice things about him.

(still wish they took Debrincat....but I think Peeke will be an NHL-er)

Abramov's team is playing Dubois' right now. It's the last regular season game for both.

Rimouski is finished; scoring title to Mr. Abramov (albeit unofficially, for now).

I think that's unwarranted. I never had him above 60th so I'm not a Milano guy, but he's done nothing to deserve falling past 100. He's still 20 years old and no less talented. Oddly, I wouldn't be surprised to see him make his mark as a defensive forward / takeaway artist.

I know hindsight is 20-20 but still can't help wondering if the switch from BC to CHL was a mistake...and then the jump from CHL to AHL in one season rushed him.

It's a good sign he scored an empty netter a few days ago. The fact he's trusted to be on the ice protecting a lead. It's a major transition for him. He's always been an offense first and skilled, incredibly fast players can dominate so much in junior hockey they never are challenged that much until they reach pro hockey.
