Not agreeing with Stokes, but Reinhart does need to improve his shot. That will help him make his own luck.

So how did he score last season?

Did you watch last year? He only scored 2 goals on shots outside 15 feet I believe. Basically every goal was Tomas Holmstrom style.

His average shot distance at even strength is lower than it was last year.

Are you suggesting Reinhart doesn't need to improve his shot? As much as he is so skilled at, that is a weaker part of his game.

I don't think it's the reason he's not scoring goals this season.

So it's just bad luck?

Reinhart's shooting percentage will improve now that he's at center. At wing, he's often releasing while challenging the defenseman or under pressure. Less of that at center, and more opportunities to be the F3 or clean up in front of the net at the end of a play.

But agreed with all. If I were him, I'd work on my shot this summer.

Bad luck results in lack of confidence results in shooting less results in scoring less.

His shooting frequency has been on the upswing, hopefully he pots a couple more goals before the end of the season.

Whatever you want to convince yourself of. He does need to work on that part of his game.

He seemed to have a decently hard and accurate shot during the skills competition they did earlier this season and last season. Why do you guys suppose it doesn't translate to games?

Because he does not have a quick release; it's pretty slow tbh. This is maybe more important than the actual speed & accuracy of his shot.

Honestly the kid has scored 3 goals (one against WPG and Nash come to mind) that were from more than feet of the goal in 158 NHL games. His release isn't good enough or quick enough to be goalies like (Eichel, Kane, Okposo etc..) can do. If he scores it's going to be a tip or a rebound, even dating back to junior you will be hard pressed to see him beat a goalie with a shot from the hash marks. He's a Matt Moulson goal scorer right now with a far worse release than Matt had in his prime.

Reinhart is a playmaker not a goal scorer. Why are we talking about this?

So how does that explain the fact that he's shooting from closer in this season and scoring less goals again?

Because perception and bias trump data and reading comprehension.

Reinhart is slow and bad because I say so.
