More realistic names to target:
-Oduya: He's still playing close to 20 a night for the blackhawks. How much does he have left? Would be nice to fill him into George's role.
-Markov: He's still churning out assists and minutes.
-Trevor Daley: Playing 20 minutes a game on a good team
-Del Zotto: He might get a contract somoene regrets, and he really should be a third pairing Franson type, but if it's a good contract he'd be a fine add.
-Ron Hainsey: He's getting up there in age, but he still plays 20 minutes a night and doesn't look terrible. Has played with Bogosian before.

That second group isn't exactly world beaters, but they're guys that can play on a second pairing a lot more competently than we have now and would be solid upgrades, especially if it's accompanied by one big fish such as a Tanev, Fowler, etc.

If Antipin is legit, a D corp like this wouldn't make me gouge my eyes out:

McCabe-Risto
Daley-Tanev
Antipin-Bogosian

so why is Vancouver trading Tanev again? Or are we just hopeful because Benning? Seems like a no-brainer that he's the one they keep around to shelter the young guys comin up. Wouldnt Edler be the one to move? Or even Sbisa or Gundbransen for a mid level winger instead?

That second group means that either McCabe is playing with Risto or the trade target was a partner for Risto and the UFA LHD is likely playing on the third pair.

That's not bad, really. I assume Falk and Gorges would be depth.

And if Antipin isn't legit, I'm sure we'll see Guhle on the team eventually sometime next season.

I still think Tanev will be difficult to acquire without Nylander. A Tanev/Kane+ swap is likely untenable

I think almost any blueline combination makes me want to gauge my eyes out of Bylsma is coaching it...

I agree it's a pipe dream

I'm fine with McCabe/UFA LHD playing with Risto. Just need someone that works, and McCabe has looked good there.

I agree, though I would do Nylander for Tanev in a heartbeat.

There's gonna be more than 2 top 4 guys, you just need a good scouting department to find those guys.

This year's UFA crop on D has Shattenkirk and then a whole bunch of 35+ guys or guys that aren't going to make this team's top 4 better.

They would make the defense passable for a year or two until Either Guhle is ready for top four minutes, or a better option becomes available through trade or free agency.

I wonder if Justin Schultz might end up pricing himself out of Pittsburgh. 25 Years old, would do a great job of holding down 3/4 RD allowing Bogo to slide over to 3/4 LD where he seems more active. If Schultz does get locked down to a long term deal in Pitt that means one of Dumoulin or Pouliot (Both upcoming RFA) shakes free. It might be a less sexy move than Tanev or Fowler but still could pay off. Plus all three are in the correct age range.

There's more then 1 player in this years UFA crop who will be of top 4 next year. It's about finding the right guys. That's why you have pro scouts.

Guys playing 20 minutes a night on cup contenders can't improve our second pairing?

Seeing a player like Nylander look better then Reinhart is a kick in the pants.

My history says I can. So whatever bud. Sam is going to be good, but other players have surpassed him at this point. That's no disprespect to Sam at all yet will get taken out of proportion by members on this site.

Edit: i feel like this is the wrong thread for this.

You are wrong. He's still the best forward from the draft.

Are you taking a shot at him? He's the best player on the ice for many of the leafs games I've watched recently. The play just always seems to flow through him, so it's no surprise he has a lot of secondary assists as you as saying (I haven't looked). Players like him will always put up a lot of secondary assists.

Id love an argument about how he's better then Draisaitl or Pastrnak. Then you still have Ehlers or Nylander who have passed him as well (still somewhat close I guess)

If he plays centre (which he should) it could be a different story.

He's so good that his teammates score significantly more goals when they're not playing with him.

Replace Reinhart with any of these forwards and the Sabres are a significantly worse team.

Reinhart is at worst only slightly worse offensively than these players or, more likely than not, better. He is significantly better defensively than any of them. He has by far the hardest job of any of them.

They definitely are not. That's comical to think that swapping out Sam Reinhart at RW with David Pastrnak makes this team "significantly worse"

Replacing your best play-driver with a passenger makes the team significantly worse, yes.

Jack Eichel would be the best play driver on this team (I'm well aware of where you are getting your numbers from and what they say)...but whatever...there zero chance this team is worse off with Pastrnak.

(I'm fully expecting a Reinhart hat trick tonight now lol)
