Btw I cheered for Detroit in those battles and was pissed off with what happened with Draper, but you'd think this board would beyond myths and legends.
I can do both in 1 video. Neely whiffs on the retaliation punch after lemieux was pecking at his face with his stick before finally connecting with Neely's eye and Lemieux at no point even thinks of dropping his stick and fighting back. not that he would have had a chance and he knows it.

but who are you kidding? This is not myth. or legend. Lemieux did this sort of thing all the time.

He was a pest when he did things like take the opposing goalies water bottle for a drink after the whistle and those were funny. He was a dirty SOB most of the time he was playing.

Was he a pest, yes, but you showed nothing in link that proves your assertions. Just hyperbolic bs. He never sticked anybody in the eye and he didn't turtle 90% of the time.

Ummm. He is whiffing his stick.....in Neely's face INTENTIONALLY....in the linked video. And He sticks him.....right in the eye. Which is when Neely falls to the ice holding his eye, drops the gloves, and throws a Haymaker that Lemieux ducks and proceeds to do anything but fight(Or drop his stick) as Neely ragdolls him and then drags him and slams him into the boards. They showed him waving his stick in Neely's face multiple times before connecting the wood to the socket in the slow mo replay, clear as day

And as for turtling, uh are you confusing turtling with the symbolic Turtle position of him covering his head? Turtling in hockey is many things, but not always just the iconic image of Lemieux holding both hands over his head. The main thing is, either covering up or getting in close and trying to tie a guy up so he stops hitting you with range punches and you can trip it to the ground to end the punishment when the refs can intervene. Also, not taking off your helmet with a faceshield and fighting with it on was largely considered a cowardly armor technique. Back then, almost EVERYONE who fought, whether they were a fighter or not knew it was an unspoken rule you take that shield off of you drop the gloves.

Lemieux did that ALL THE TIME. I lost track of how many times he was on the wrong end of punches, ducked in low and close to stop taking punches and try to go for the single leg takedown so refs could step in. And for the record, going for single leg takedowns to try to dump someone on their head because they are getting the better of you punch for punch in hockey is a very dirty move.

I never liked Draper. He, McCarty and Maltby used to run around on the 4th line and just make eyes roll.

Your bias got in front of you eyes. Lemieux was hiking Neely and his stick got up and hit him in the face. Happens quite often today and all the time back when waterskiing was a "legal" defensive tactic. I also have to point out that Neely swings before Lemieux even has a chance to see what's going on. Once again, Lemieux cover when someone tries to throw a sucker punch.

Nice try, but a major fail on your part.

Nah, Lemieux did that all the time. Whiff the stick in front of your opponents eyes to try to get him to flinch. Get him off his game whiel battling for the puck.

Problem is, 50% of the time it ended in a high stick to the eyes.

He did it EVERY shift. Drity, uncalled for, deserving a beating.

It's pretty sad when people have to make things up to justify their irrational hate for someone and to not admit they were wrong when they posted their description of a video.

He whiffed his stick at Neely's eye twice there before finally making contact the 3rd time.

But good for you for considering that water skiing.
Neely got up and threw the haymaker for a reason. Because Claude was not only well known for doing this, but he had been doing it ALL game.

No, he hooked him twice and got his stick up accidentally. Obviously you don't play hockey. Sorry to waste my time.

Actually, I do. Obviously you don't. Lemieux did that all the time. Sticked people in the face, played with what his teammates called an "Edge", but everyone else called reckless disregard.

Among other things you are trying to defend a guy universally regarded among the top dirtiest players of all time.
Even DEVILS fans were admitting Claude Lemieux was a dirty piece of crap with his stickwork back then and NOBODY faulted Neely for going at him there.

Stop with the "I play hockey and you don't" stuff, both of you.
