You never know. Depends on the economics too. Montreal is starting to be packed with young talent while the team that wins the lottery is probably short of depth at every single position or close to it and likely to be for many years to come. If you want fans in your arena, you better start winning some games. This kind of trade can be the solution.

This is the kind of tough risky trade where you'd say to the other Gm: take 5 players, whoever you want, plus our 1st pick, for Crosby. It's definitelly tempting, but not a sure thing. Anyway you look at it, it would need to be some major overpayment. Like Markov, Ribeiro, Garon, Zednik, Kastsitsyn and a 1st for example. It sounds crazy, but I think if we want Crosby, we'll need to offer something along those lines and then some. I'm sure half the teams in the NHL will make a bid for him. I could very well see this trade (if there's one) being the biggest in NHL history involving a 1st overall pick.

If you were washington would you take that? How could their gm face the fans, saying he got Ribs, 2 prospects that seem to have stalled and 2 1st rounders that should be 18th and hopefully much higher the next year.

It would be awesome to get Ovechkin for sure. But with all those veterans who aren't that young we shouldn't trade some potential great player for the futur to get ONE. I know some people will say, He's OVECHKIN, the great one...bla bla bla. I don't care, I prefer having 5 great youngs prospect instead of gambling on one.

You will have to do much, and I mean *MUCH* better than that. In my opinion, Washington's GM would be looking for established players... something like Andrei Markov, Richard Zednik, Chris Higgins and our 1st would be more likely.

Ovechkin will be a damn good player In this league but Im not ready to sacrifice 3-4 prospect for only 1 guy,I trust Timmins,Savard and Gauthier for the scouting departement and Im sure they will make the good choice

We don't need to give Markov just because we offered him for Kovalchuk..he wasn't developed yet like a #1 or #2 like he is now.

He is comparable to Ron Hainsey today ...

Hainsey
1st in 04
Perezhogin ?
Hossa
2nd in 04
1st in 05

Hmmm...they still might not bite.

I'm with Munchausen on this as well. If we are going to make a huge crazy bid for one prospect, I'd make it for Crosby. He sure looks like he's going to be one of those guys who elwevates himself above the rest.

Kastitsyn, Higgins, Hainsey (or comparable players in a years time), !st in '05, 1st in '06 for Crosby. I wonder if that would be enough????

Kastitsyn+Higgins+Hainsey+1st>Ovechkin.That package could get you anyone in the league more less a kid that hasn't played in the Nhl yet.Remember Alexander Daigle man if Ottawa would have dealt him they would be cup champions by now I mena from the offers they were getting.I heard Steve Yzerman one time incredible

I say keep our kids. Who needs superstars? Take a look at the Sharks. How many superstars do they have? Take a look at the Avs. Pick a superstar. Who's kicking ass in that series? That's riiiiiiiiiiggghtttt!!!!!! I want MY Habs to resemble the Sharks. No superstars, just 4 lines of solid 2 way players. And I see a few of our prospects down on the farm developing into solid players. Keep drafting well boys, the Habs are on the right path.

That's an interesting Idea, I just don't think your going to find any takers. there is just to many question with the CBA, what the draft will look like if there is a lockout, added to the fact that this year is considered a weak draft and next year is thought to be to be a lot stronger.

I think Washington desperatly needs help at defence, so I would think: Komisarek, Ribeiro, Garon, and whoever from (Perezhogin, Kastitsyn, Higgins, Hossa, Hainsey) and our 1st rounder..
I'm not sure this deal would be possible, but I am pretty sure that it's a better deal than Theo, Markov, Hainsey and Perezhogin for Kovalchuk.

Hainsey wasn't involved..the deal was:

Mathieu Garon
Andrei Markov
1st round pick(7th overall)-Komisarek
1st round pick(25th overall)-Perezhogin

For

1st overall pick- Kovalchuk

Atlanta insisted on Theodore. Montreal's offer was the best
