That would be me and with that said he was pretty much the only thing all game that didn't make me laugh with embarrassment.

The MLB should have forced the Pads to field a major-league team. A combined salary of what - $30mil? I know they're paying off another $35mil for stupid prior contracts, and have great young OFs, but THAT crap is worse than what ATL has fielded the last 2 years.

The current 25 man payroll is just under 30 million.

I'm kinda mixed on how I feel about it. Yes, you're right, the OFs are young and talented, but, I know what they're doing. They hired a new GM a few years ago and he immediately started flipping prospects from the old system (ranked low on many lists) for big names like Matt Kemp, Justin Upton, Craig Kimbrel, etc and then when it didn't work out he traded those guys away for top prospects from other teams. Now Baseball America has us with something like 6 or 7 of their top 100 prospects. Problem is most of them are like 18 to 20 years old and won't be in MLB for awhile. We're usually a crappy team with no direction, so at least now we're a crappy team moving in a certain direction. Also, our GM is known to be a good talent scout, especially in Latin America, and we've spent some absurd number like near $80 million on Latin players. If we even do get good it'll take a few years but they aren't intentionally throwing a crap team out there.

You can't force a team to sign players you deem would make them competitive enough. San Diego tried to make a run one year by making a bunch of (stupid) trades. It predictably failed miserably, so they tore it down and are looking a few years ahead. Nothing wrong with that.

I completely agree that their re-build is in full force, however it's ironic that you mention the trades as being stupid. I think nearly everybody viewed it that way (understandably) but as a fan I said at the time in 2015 that I viewed it as a new, young, hot shot GM coming in for his first full season and evaluating the farm system and when he didn't like what he had, he swapped guys he didn't want for big names that had the talent to win immediately if all went right. It was kind of a win-win IMO. Maybe you catch lightning in a bottle and have success with the big names, but if you don't you can re-stock the cupboard of prospects (hand picked by the new GM) by dealing off these guys to contending teams who are willing to pay. And to be fair, our rankings in terms of farm system depth has improved dramatically since this happened. It's gone from ranking in the mid-to-late 20s to top 10.

Paul Kuharsky was let go by ESPN, in their massive layoffs.

Too bad 104.5 hasn't let him go either.

Looks like ESPN has fired about every hockey writer besides Custance and Melrose. Bucci may be gone this summer too.

This is very true. Used to be somewhat watchable, until they decided to go the route of MTV did in the music world. More opinion & political jargon that nobody asked for in the first place.

I thought the same but I think because Bucci is on TV all the time and does more things for the network that he's safe. Hockey is just his favorite to promote. He's there for way more than that.

MSESPN.

Bomani Jones also turned a Twitter story about us flipping the car after Hawks game 4 into a racially charged political take.

I dropped cable about 3 years ago and haven't watched a second of ESPN since (Except for 30 for 30 on Netflix, some of which are excellent). Great decision

They have far too many that are similar, that make their living off of over the top stories like that. If it weren't for that, they'd have absolutely nothing to say or write about.

Seeing Clay Travis routinely destroy Bomani on Twitter is pretty great.

Travis is an obnoxious idiot trolling other obnoxious idiots like Bomani Jones and Jemele Hill and painting them as indicative of everyone at ESPN when that's not nearly the case while spinning the narrative that ESPN is losing subscribers because of its politics rather than a long-term change in media consumption habits that ESPN has not kept up with (FS1 has less reach and is losing households faster than ESPN, which is why he trots out the politics narrative). He's little more than a smarmy spin doctor, and his radio show is eminently uninteresting.

I feel awful for everyone losing a job today in Bristol (or Charlotte, since ESPNU is packing up and moving north) because they were all hard-working people who got canned for doing nothing but their jobs to the best of their abilities.

In the 90's my TV was constantly tuned to an ESPN channel. By the 00's I could only tolerate ESPNnews when I woke up and before bed. But it's probably been more than 12 years since I've watched any of their stuff other than the occasional 30 for 30. If they ever return to their roots, I'd consider coming back.

I really gotta wonder where exactly they are going with these moves. They let some seriously big names go across several sports, and kept a whole lot of crap.

I see ESPN in the same vein as the History Channel. At one point I watched it all of the time, now it has one show that may be worth watching ( in ESPN's case it's 30 for 30 )

People rip on Clay, but he is right about almost everything. I used to dislike him when he would talk about how awful Derek Dooley was but I ended up looking like the idiot on that one..

There's a reason he's growing and other media outlets are shrinking. People like to associate him with FS1 but he's a radio and internet guy. The truth is he's right about most things and quite often he's right in advance. Whether you like him or don't he has the stones to call out the media on their crap and that's why he has an audience.

Funny enough my dislike for him is actually tied to how he used to talk about the Preds on 104.5.

He is ratings driven. He is going to talk about what people want to talk about. Hockey is a niche sport that doesn't get good ratings. It is what it is. He does talk Preds during the playoffs when a higher number of people care about hockey.
