At his current salary, that's easy to say. This becomes a more looming issue when this contract expires. How much are we going to be willing to pay for a 13-15 per year goal scorer?

Sounds like Backstrom-lite to me. So, 6.5-lite as well?

Backstrom has 23-61-84 this season. He's a PPG player for his entire career and a perennial 20-50-70 guy (often more than that). Not sure Wenns is in his stratosphere yet.

Agreed, which is why I was saying (albeit perhaps poorly) that he should make less than Backstrom.

15g is plenty if he's topping 50 assists.

I could care less who gets last touch on his line.

Good article about Foligno, and I thought some of the banter between Torts and Foligno on the bench during the Vancouver game was funny.

Great read. Sounds like Nicky has turned into a first rate Captain.

Let's put Wennberg on the ice with Ovi and see how well he does.

Not to take anything away from Backstrom, but Nash is the closest thing we've had to Ovi and they're not even in the same stratosphere. Even if Ovi and Backstrom aren't on the same line, he benefits from not having to go against those lines out to shut down Ovi.

Sorry if this has been posted already. I've spent the season as a fan and haven't had the usual time on the boards to shamelessly self promote or chat about prospects. I chose a great season to take a break, it's been a real treat watch this team from a solely fan perspective for a change.

Reading a lot of negativity so I thought I would share this positive article with you all. I agree with what is said - I honestly thought our last three games looked very promising in spite of the outcomes. It ain't all bad, and I can feel the swagger still. Hopefully they peak against the Penguins and make some noise.

That article just makes me want to rest some players the last few games.

I'm not sure an optimistic article will be well received here.

I love shot location charts, you can really see the strategies that teams use. The Lightning for example, really like to slip guys into the high slot and feed them quick little saucers.

Here's the Jackets.

Jackets strategy: throw it on net and have Foligno and Atkinson whack at it in the crease.

Someday we'll have continuous player location and puck location data and we'll laugh at how antiquated this data is, but for now I'm enjoying it.

Expect an announcement in the next couple weeks that the dates of the Traverse City Prospects Tournament will be around the weekend of September 8-10.

You're kidding me. Can we stop comparing Wennberg to Backstrom, take off the homer glasses. He doesn't deserve anywhere near that kinda money. At 21 years old Backstrom had seasons of 69, 88, and 101 points.. Wennberg has had (25), (47), and 59.... plz plz just stop. Backstrom is a much much better player.

Ah, but you see, Backstrom is good, because he's a player we want, and Wennberg is bad, because he wasn't immediately our savior this year. Therefore there can be no comparison between them. That's just how it works. It's SCIENCE.

No you can't say they are similar or should be paid similarly when one is a much better player at the same age.

I didn't say he was bad, I said he was not Nick Backstrom. Huge difference and you know that.

He's closer to Mikael Granlund then to Backstrom. Wennberg should be paid around 3.5 a year based on his production to this point.

In this case I chose to use the term "lite" in order to indicate that I think wennberg is not currently as good as Backstrom and that wennberg should therefore be paid less than Backstrom. Why are you so angrily agreeing with me?

Queen of the over-the-top, emotionally-charged, contrived and idiotic false dichotomy strikes again.
