Are NHL players insured when playing at the World Hockey Championships?

Maybe I have my facts wrong but I believe one of the reasons why the NHL decided not to send its players to next years Winter Olympics was the risk of them getting injured and everything that goes with it. So I'm wondering for the players who's NHL seasons are over and go off to play for their country's at the World Hockey Championships, are they insured or not in case they get injured in that tournament? Can I also assume the owners of their NHL teams can not prevent them from playing because their NHL season is over.

NHL players are allowed to participate in the WC under the conditions negotiated and included in the CBA. The NHL salaries are fully guaranteed if a player is injured during the WC the same as they would be if the injury occurred in an NHL game.

One of the conditions that must be met is the IIHF or National Team needs to provide insurance to cover the remaining value of the player's NHL contract. If that doesn't happen then the Team does not have to release the player for the WC.

Thank you for knowing that because I was always curious about how it worked.

If I was Team Canada, I'd only be inviting players on 3m less contracts. Covering insurance for Jamie Benn would be A LOT of money.
