The Habs have a soft team. They cannot win against teams that are skilled and physical. Sure they beat a physical Bruins team all year but they are not really a skilled team. The Ottawa's, Anaheim's, Sharks, etc will beat beat the Habs 9 out of 10 times. Things get even more physical in the playoffs. Sure we have guys that will hit but we also have far too many players that get intimidated when the going gets tough. last night game when they were down 2-0 the crowd was dead, the players were dead. There was no emotion. I was thinking a good scrap might change the tide a bit. But the Habs can't do that because it will give the other team that much more momentum because the Habs guy will get pounded.
The Habs are not soft at all, they are young and inexperienced. The Sens were once labeled as "soft" because they had a lot of talent that won them many games but they kept losing in the playoffs to the leafs because of the inexperience. Last year they were ready and it showed. Theres isnt one guy in the Habs line up who isnt afraid to get their hands dirty but there are so many inexperienced guys on this team.
It's not softness, but the Habs do have a problem going into the playoffs. The Anaheim and Ottawa games show that a good team can easily neutralize the Habs. They just run constant physical interference. Not holding, not hooking, but body-blocking when there's no puck. It eliminates the Habs' best weapon -- their speed and transition.
We can complain about the non-calls, but the fact is that the Anaheim and Ottawa games were previews of playoff hockey. That sort of interference, however rulebook it may be, will not be called in the playoffs (or down the stretch). Until and unless the Habs find a way to counter that kind of tight checking, they're pretty much at the mercy of a well-coached team.
I agree,if the refs don't call anything like they usually do come playoff time,it's going to be real hard for us.Last night we we never first on the puck.I hope they can keep proving us all wrong
Let's not forget that we have a very young team. Look at what Ottawa did to us. They were very physical all game long, but physical doesn't always mean hitting hard. It's just a way to be hard on the puck carrier and take away lots of space and especially, skating hard. The habs were outclassed by a team that played a very disciplined and physical game, without even hitting that much. Our players will play like this, but it's something you have to learn. We will learn this in the playoffs.
We will be better next year, unless our players learn fast and dominate right away. We will see!
I think they should ban fans of other teams(and those that might be impersonating Canadiens fans) from this portion of the forum. This area is designed to discuss how the Canadiens will win their 25th Stanley Cup. IT IS NOT designed to bring up things that mean nothing(...too soft), or might serve to "throw off" our team from their mission. This garbage is guaranteed to be coming mostly from the very envious "LEAVES" fans. There are NO weaknesses when they want to play. I think they are just bored with the regular season, and want to get on to the play-offs...then you will all see. LES CANADIENS in five.....maybe four depending on how many notches Carey Price decides to "turn up" his game.....To the fans of other teams....HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!
