Before Christmas 2006, Montreal is 2nd in their conference in points chasing Buffalo for first. Sammy is playing not too good and Carbo has had enough is starts benching him. Sammy whines and moans, brings moral down and Montreal finishes out of the playoffs.
Montreal trades him away for 2 guys they buy out at lesser salary. Moral goes way up. Montreal is fighting for 1st again. How’s that for a good deal. Granted last season was not all Sammy, but he was an important non-contributor and for a hockey team, team chemistry is often more important than talent.
