Preds @ Wings - 12 PM CST 3-15-08

(Play like you give a crap edition lol)

@

Oh well let's see how we respond. Everytime I think this team is done they do something to give me false hope hehe

I think I read Ellis will get the start. Correct me if not.

Go Preds!

Speaking of Ellis I thought this was a pretty good read in todays paper.

Losing 9 pounds during one game while playing a position that stands around during much of the contest---wow.Better than Jenny Craig IMO !!!!

Key to this game is to play Detroit at even-strength as much as possible and if possible, play from ahead for as long as possible.

Look for Detroit to come out flying after their letdown against the Preds in the last meeting allowing three goals in the final 5:25 to really hang on for the victory. At the same time, look for Nashville to come out of the gates strong after realizing that it takes playing more than 5:25 to win against Detroit.

Bottom line is that the Preds need to play with desperation and I would love it right now if Arnott is walking around the locker room preaching a phrase he used so often earlier this season, "gritty, not pretty."

After 1 its 1-1. We played pretty good that period and made one mistake...

Gotta keep it up for 2 more periods.

I can't believe we won.....

I missed the entire game, so I would love to see a synopsis from slake, 303, etc.

Maybe a little later for me. I missed the first period as I was on the road...so maybe someone can fill you in.

Basically, we played even the whole game with Detroit at even-strength. We killed ourselves with all the penalties we took. Peverley capitialized on a turnover by Osgood behind the net and then Smithson added an empty-netter at the end. Zanon almost killed us with an unlucky 4-minute high-sticking penalty late in the third, but our PK'ers came up huge with Ellis being the best one out there. Great game overall by Ellis, his puck moving abilities helped us gain the zone easier on the PP in the third as DET went for the change on every clear.

Overall, a great way to start the day...unfortunately though Colorado is buzzing all around the NJ net and now are going to the PP! Devils lead 1-0 right now in the second...

just a quick random quick thought or two..

...if our penalty killing had been as good in the first 5 redwing games as it was today, we'd be 6-0-0 against the redwings this year.
...all year, they simply have not been able to beat us 5 on 5.
...ellis was tremendous whichever way you cut it. a couple of times he went from post to post to cover weak side shots that i wouldn't have thought he'd had any chance of getting too.

...ellis ability to make that long outlet pass got us entry straight back into their zone with possession of the puck two or three times on the pp. even though we didn't score, simply drawing those two penalties in the third took so much pressure off when you knew how hard they were coming.
...man we had quite a few chances to make this 3-1 earilier.
...i'm shocked that we could generate enough offense to beat the wings with no goals from the top line.

... the secret to these last nine games is can we get the radulov-arnott-dumont hot again. if not, we'll fall out of it, if we do, we'll make it.

that's enough for now, more later, i want to sit back and enjoy this one for a little while.

True, they didn't score a goal...however Dumont and Radulov did get the primary assists on Hamhuis's goal that put us up 1-0. Therefore, while they didn't necessarily finish the chance themselves, they did create offense.

As you say, the key is getting them hot because it is clear that on any given night this team has the ability to get secondary scoring from anywhere up and down the roster...the key is getting that line to carry the load offensively night in and night out.

the simple run down of this game:

1. Ellis
2. Peverly punches in a golden opp. from Osgood.
3. Preds Win!

This makes a lot of sense. Lose at home to L.A. and win on the road in Detroit.

We are the first (!) highlight on On the Fly so if you missed anything you don't have to wait long. Seriously, first game after some Pronger suspension talk.

Great job to bounce back.

Ellis was great. On the highlights the Detroit announcers one time during the second period called Ellis, Osgood. I guess that's a pretty good compliment.

We blocked 16 shots, Zanon blocked 6. And we won 59% FO.

On Detroit's goal if Dumont had bothered to backcheck any they might not have scored. All I saw was him skating leisurely back to the zone.

Hamhuis' goal was great. He went in and around the other dman and was able to get the puck to squeeze in between Osgood's foot and the post.

Good heads up play by Peverley. How was that not unassisted? Didn't Osgood play it and therefore making a giveaway? He was credited with a giveaway so how can you have a GA if you don't even play the puck? Oh well, that's points for Zanon and Bochenski (his first point as a Pred!).

And a nice shot by Smithson for the EN. Right down the middle.

Good job Preds!!

Did anyone else notice the Detroit announcers going crazy when Dumont had the puck in front of the goal with a clear shot and he dropped it back? It was a really odd thing for Dumont to do. Anyone have any suggestions on why he didn't shoot?

it was a foolish looking play.. i think it happened because dumont's back was to the net when he caught the puck, and didn't realize until he had already decided to pass the puck that he was really so wide open in the slot

I feel like this win is kind of cheapened by the fact that the Blue Jackets beat them, today.
