John Scott. Not a joke. All star story line aside, he was a 4th line grinder before, and he is still a huge dude and didn't have many skills that would decline.

Scott Gomez. He can probably still pass the puck. He looked all but retired like 3 times and came back to play in the NHL again.

Cody Hodgson. Guy is 27 years old, and had 20 goals only 3 years ago. Yes he was trash with Nashville and can't skate. But his retirement was a bit of a surprise, and could maybe still hack it.

Rod Brind'Amour. Whoever first suggested him in this thread is bang on!

Martin Havlat. If he was put in bubble wrap and given PP time, he could seriously still play. Just needs the groin issue under controll. Such a skilled guy, he would make a play from nothing. Only (only?) 36.

Vinny LeCavalier. He was pretty good with LA at the end there. He had no choice but to retire after that last kick at the can, it was agreed as part of the trade. If he chose a team other than Philly after leaving Tampa, he would probably still be in the league.

He has a condition that doesn't allow him to play hockey anymore. He's done.

Raffi Torres could probably still play and get a few suspensions.

Didn't know that's why he retired. I thought he just regressed and decided to hang them up when he didn't get decent contract offers. My mistake.

Well as everyone knows his back has bothered him for years and we all know the drama around that in Vancouver. They finally figured out his issue was a degenerative condition that was not gonna get better. Cody wanted to play hockey and people always said his skating wasn't good enough, he didn't have heart, etc but in reality his back wouldn't allow it and in turn he struggled his last couple seasons.

Brodeur could still be a back-up on some teams. Or a depth guy.

Must not have paid any attention to the Wings or Lidstrom then. He was called that like every single time his name was brought up in games or for the Norris.

Yeah, it was either Mr. Perfect, The perfect human or Mr. Robot. Strangely enough not Cyborg.

Scary Gary Roberts, but he's too busy beefing other hockey players

Have you seen the Red Wings defensive corps?

Lids could set down his beer, get up off the couch, lace up some skates and still be the #1 D-man for Detroit.

Hell, he probably wouldn't even have to set down his beer.

Visnovsky would probably figure in any playoff lineup if he plays today.

You're pretty out of the loop when even ESPN knows it. http://www.espn.com/nhl/columns/stor...rre&id=5918807

I agree on Lidström. He is still in great shape, has an all world hockey IQ and Red Wings D are terrible atm. Not saying he would be a top 2, maybe even not top 4, but hes definitely capable of logging third pairing minutes. Babcock would certainly love to have him in Leafs to teach the kids.

I can't think of anyone else. I think that it takes more speed as a forward, so I would be harder for them to do a comeback.

To the one guy who didn't know about the Lidströms nicknames ill just shake my head.

Would love to see Selanne make a comeback by playing for the Jets.

Not very many, as in maybe none that didnt retire this year. Lidström could do it I think as a 3rd pairing defensive specialist.

I imagine Sakic would do a better job as a player today than a GM.
