When (hopefully not if) the Canes make the playoffs in the next few years, I'm going to have try to completely refrain from participating in GDTs. The GDTs for pretty much every series, on the main board and team boards are nothing but whine fests. Constant complaining about the refs, being screwed over by calls, NHL is biased, other team is lucky, other team is dirty, how is that not a penalty, blah, blah, blah. Even as a neutral fan, it's unbearable. Every hard hit the opposing team whines about a penalty.

I do have to acknowledge that a lot of it is on the NHL. More than ever, this year they have decided that you pretty much have to mug someone or it has to be a non-judgment call like puck over the glass or high stick, before they'll call a penalty. It's consistent, but so drastically different than how they called the regular season that I can see why fans are reacting. We are conditioned to how they've call penalties all season and now that's changed. I'm fine with them swallowing their whistles a bit, particularly on scrums, hits and physical play because for me, it keeps the intensity high. I don't like that blatant holding and blatant obstruction are not being called as it really eliminates a lot of the excitement of the game. I mean when a goalie (Andersen in game one) actually reaches out with both arms and grabs and tackles a forward, that has to be called. When two defensemen (Caps), hold Marner up for like 5s after he chips the puck in, that has to be called. Some of the games are downright unwatchable because of all the holding and obstruction. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see nothing but PPs, but you wouldn't see that because teams would stop doing it if it was called. Just my $0.02.

BBA, I agree with this entirely, especially the interference. In fact, I've been vocal about how that call has essentially reverted back to pre-2004. The call was put into place to insure that skill has a chance to win out. There's got to be a mid-point, but even out own young defenders do it now (under the watchful eye of Hainsey, I'm sure) and I hate it.

I also like a little rougher, more physical playoff, but you cannot let blatant penalties go without a call. Given how things are being called, if I was San Jose, I'd be beating the **** out of Edmonton's youngsters.

I'll do okay, actually, I had the Hawks being upset by the Blues in round 2.
I have Ducks / Pens final. So I'm still good

Preds Blues and Ducks Oilers

Pens Caps and Rags Sens

3/4 exciting matchups. Rags need to roll over and die already

Blue Jackets are gone!

Still mad it wasn't a sweep, though.

Pens/Caps feels like it should be a Conference Final, not a semifinal matchup.

One more reason to hate this stupid playoff system. I still don't get what was wrong with 1-8.

Don't assume the Caps will win this over the Leafs. Caps haven't been the "clearly" better team so far.

With all the times Ovechkin has hit people's knees with questionable hits I can't feel the least bit bad for him here.

This game is about to get pretty interesting now. Especially with Orpik and Niskanen on the back end for Washington.

Exactly. That hit wasn't even that bad.

Remember when Ovechkin and Gleason made knee contact, and Ovechkins mother blasted Gleason for the hit and suggested he invest in glasses, when the contact was more Ovechkins fault?

Fairly positive the Hulk would win but it seems like Angry Ovechkin would give him a run for his money.

Ummmm no hitting a guy in the knee with your hip isn't clean. It's clipping. It's exceedingly dirty. And it's a chicken **** move. If someone did that to a Hurricane I would expect someone on the ice to pound that guy to dust. Then I'd remember the Hurricanes are the softest team in existence and they will just take it and be angry for a whole new reason.

Kadri came in low but it was Ovechkin trying to jump out of the way and avoid the hit that caused the hit to the knee.
