Very seriously, we need to get the crowd into this game early. This team needs an extra lift at home recently and this is exactly where I see fighting as a tool. I'm calling it right now...Hordichuk vs. Brashear in the first period.

My question to all of you is...which defensive pair do you match against OV? Normally we have Hamhuis-DeVries out there as our shutdown pairing, but I question whether or not Greg's foot-speed will inhibit his ability to perform in open ice. Do you switch pairings altogether to account for this or maybe challenge Weber-Suter to step up here and take the lead? I doubt Zidlicky-Zanon/Koistinen will get the call, but you never know...

We have to stay out of the penalty box.......

I would put the Suter/Weber pairing out there as they are the only pairing that consistently lays the wood on opponents/take the body. Hamhuis and Devries are going to get torched if they try and stick check Federov, Backstrom, Kozlov, and Ovechkin.......this is a very quick team with some great stickhandlers (Backstrom may be one of the best stickhandlers in the NHL already.)

The Predators cannot afford to get into a run and gun game against Washington.

I have to say, I'm very excited about this game; I've been looking forward to this game all year. I'm pretty stoked about seeing Ovechkin. Don't get me wrong, I don't want him to torch us, but it will be great to see a player of his caliber against us.

We badly need this game, as does Washington. All is setup for what would appear to be a very interesting game.

This should be a pretty good game just from looking at the numbers above and not to mention the need of points for both teams. Good stuff.

Oh...and Chris Clark might be playing tonight. We're not sure yet...but getting the Capitan back will be a huge shot in the arm for the squad.

I think it is Huet tonight and Kolzig tomorrow against Chicago, if you want to update the netminders.

they are good on the PP and not so much on the PK, we are just the opposite. so no SJ style game tonight(stay out of the box).

i also noticed while doing the stats AO has 395 SOG, which is alsmost twice of arnott's. AOs 57 goals accounts for over 25% of the caps scoring. so captain obvious says slowing his scoring down will be key.

I think this game will be a low scoring affair with both teams trying to limit chances. Should be fun to watch though.

Excited to see my favorite player in the league tonight (AO).
Caps are a solid young team, they are going to be lights out in the next 2 yrs, I think. Preds desperate for points, now 4 points back of 8th.

On paper, a great matchup.

I am laughing at Flyers and Hurricanes fans coming here in fear of the Capitals. Preying for some help from the Pred. LOL.

My guess is this game is played largely in the Preds end of the ice. That is the way most Caps games work, particularly against a defensive team. The question is do the Capitals score and gain an edge or do the Preds hold the fort til they get a power play or a jail break?

So I'm taking, from your post, that you feel the Preds are vastly inferior both offensively and defensively to the Capitals....

that's my feel, too. every year i adopt an EC team to follow\pull for, and this year it's the caps. I'm a huge ovechkin fan, i like their make-up\style, and their fans have done nothing in particular to irritate me here at HF. all the makings of an NMK pick.

i'd like to see us win in OT.

Oh hell no. LOL. Where did I say that? If you are referring to my comment about the play being in Nashville's end of the ice, that is SOP in Caps games under Boudreau. They play very aggressively and tend to pin their opposition in their own end. They play 5 men in.

The result is the Caps control the puck. Often they don't score and when the other team breaks out its a jail break. The Caps often are 10-1 in shots after ten minutes.
13-4 after the first. Then go to the first intermission tied at 0-0.

Its not a result of the Preds being inferior. The Caps go all in and when they break down it results in and odd man rush or a penalty and youve seen their pk ranking.

The Caps don't get outshot 35-18. It just doesnt happen to them. They are a live by the sword/die by the sword team. Even more so against defensive teams.
