Wow...this is the dagger in the hearts of Mason - that is for sure. Ellis is being told he is worthless right now too. Rinne is 1-0 career vs. Chicago...Mason nor Ellis have had ANY success against them this year...

The team did play strong in front of him even though he let in 3 goals in that game.

It is about friggen time. Mason simply isn't a starting goaltender. He is our Dan Cloutier.....bad contract and all.

Ellis has played well this year, but he has faltered in the past two games. Furthermore, we desperately need to figure out our goalie situation heading into the off-season/playoffs.

Isn't Ellis a FA after this season? If so, I doubt we will see him come back. I read somewhere that after this year Rinne no longer has a two-way contract so I would expect to see him on the roster next season.

Too bad the coaches and Poile never "try" anything and the just keep on keepin' on.

Nice last ditch effort to salvage this thing and look for a miracle.

Man, I love this move. Go down in flames if you have to but go down doing something. Ellis isn't talented enough to get on a roll and win a stretch IMO. Mason has done it before but not since his 5 hole was ripped open in the undisclosed motorcycle accident following the second game of the season. Go crazy and hope for the best-- we likely are watching next year's starting goalie for better or worse.

It's about time! I thought this move should have happened about 15 games ago, maybe more. Our goal tending has been mediocre most of the season. It's cost us way too many games. Let's see what Rinne can do.....why not?

Shouldn't they be? Isn't this really the only shot they have?

Or of course they could just stick it out with the combo they have now and hope someone pulls their head out.

I'm all for this move ... I think it should have been done earlier in the season when Mason was sucking worse than Dan Ellis is right now ... at least it sends a message that we will attempt to empty all bullets in the revolver

They have to try something. Why not this?
Will it require them to waive somebody on the roster? or do they have a slot due to Legwand's injury? I think you can carry 3 goalies, Wash. has 3 right now after acquiring Huet.

There is no limit to the number of players you can have on the NHL roster after the lockout. However, you are only allowed a total of 4 roster transactions (not including emergency situations) - we have already used one by calling up Rich Peverley and now a second by calling up Pekka. You can assume that Pekka will remain in Nashville until the end of the season though to save the last two transactions in the event of anything else happening. It costs you a transaction every time that you call up or send down a player.

Pekka was held out of tonight's Milwaukee game, but he is still stuck there due to his flight getting cancelled due to snow!!! He will try again in the morning to get to Nashville by our 2 PM game time!!!

I guess desperate times call for desperate measures.

I think you can only dress 2 goalies so Trotz wont be able to pull 3 in one game right? lol

I guess its worth a shot neither goaltender has been lights out for sure.

Well that is if Rinne can make the flight I guess.

Wow this suprised me a lot. Does this mean we have a 3 million dollar backup goaltender on our roster for the next 2 years?

it would have been a mistake to start him at this point. ellis has been very good, and about as consistent as anyone ever has been for him. there are very few instances where goals seem to be his fault.

We lose today's game if it's anyone else in net.

I said it before the game, too. He should have never been pulled in the Detroit game. He gave up two goals on which his own defenseman were screening him and his forwards were waiting for breakout passes rather than covering the men at the points. The only recent game in which Ellis hasn't been strong was the Capitals game. We've had a lot of problems lately, but Ellis hasn't been one of them.

On the other hand, he hasn't exactly been stealing games where the team was badly outplayed the entire way.

I agree about the detroit game. Neither goals were his fault. But I think he was basing his thoughts on the previous Caps game. He didn't want a repeat and stopped it before it got out of control.

It is an odd time to call him up, though. This recall should have been done weeks ago when both goalies were godawful.

you don't think he stole that Chicago game?
