Iginla climbs the Top 100 Goal Scorers List

With a hat trick tonight, Jarome Iginla has 48 goals for the season and 372 career regular season goals. He started the game tied with Bernie Federko and Markus Naslund at position 100 in the Top 100 All-Time Goal-Scoring Leaders. He passed Tim Kerr (370) and Rick Kehoe (371) and is now tied at position 96 with Eric Lindros (372). Trevor Linden has 373 and Butch Goring has 375 career career goals.

Owen Nolan started the season at position 100 with 365 career goals. He is now at position 91 with 380 goals.

I think 650 will be quite attainable for Iginla, maybe even too conservative.

That would be assuming that he puts up 40 goals in the next 6 seasons, and then two 20 goal seasons thereafter. Retire at 38.

That would put him in at 11th all-time.

700 would put him in at 8th and he would need 669 to crack top 10.

Consider active players Sakic 621 and Shanahan 649 (probably not a realistic threat to crack 700) and Jagr 640 (most realistic to break 700) and this could obviously change.

Shanahan if he returns could crack the top 10 (Robitaille is at 10 with 668) but won't reach 9th (Lemieux at 690)

Jagr on the other hand should surpass both those players if he plays another two seasons and could end up as high as 6th or 7th. Although at his current pace that might even be a challenge.

So Iginla could very well finish top 10, but I would think probably in the 10-15 area to be more realistic.

Could be wrong but by my count there are currently 40 NHLers with 500 or more goals. Keith Tkachuk sits at 495 and he would be the 41st.

I knew Iggy could crack 50 this year! I'm really pulling for him to up the assists and finish with 50 goals and 50 assists. All this talk of him and his place in the big picture makes me happy. How about Iggy retires as a Flame at age 39 after winning a few more Rocket Richards and Art Ross trophies, wins a few Harts, gets 500 goals and 1000 points, many more all-star appearances, captains Canada at the 2010 olympics and finally brings home a few cups to Calgary that he wins the Conn Smythe for.

That would be the story book ending a guy like Iggy deserves. He's by far my favourite athlete of all time.
