It would be great if these sort of deals happened more often.

Maybe Abramov could be loaned for a year.
Between them CSKA and SKA could supply full rosters for 4 teams

Neftekhimik seems to like these loan deals.

They did the same thing with Yakimov.

If you speak about Nick Schaus he was best at points at Pardubice, team which ends last at regular part. Made 36 points in 48 games with also 0 at +/-.

If I was a mid-level KHL team exec, I would hire one of Billy Beane disciplines.

Moneypuck...

I know that most of you don't follow baseball, but not so long ago that sport also had a HUGE disparity between 'haves' and 'have nots'. Beane is famous for being the GM that had his team win as many regular season games as NY Yankees, with a fraction of the payroll.

SKA's defense and goalie situation looks good, but losing Shipachyov, Kovalchuk and Dadonov in one season could really hurt their offense.

Does anyone think they'll add some more forwards? What they have right now is probably in the upper echelon of forwards for KHL teams, but when you lose three of the leagues top five forwards, I don't think even SKA has the depth to have the best forwards in the KHL next season. I sketched out what the lines might look like, and while its not terrible, I don't think it looks that great.

Will be interesting to see if Simon Hjalmarsson's rights being traded Neftekhimik results in anything.

Why did you think these guys are in blue? They're from Kazakhstan.

Actually I think it might become whole lot harder for Kazakhstan to do that if NHL isn't going to play in the Olympics for sure.

In other news, is it me, or is the KHL really not a big player anymore in European transfer market? SHL seems to be bleeding players left and right and Burstrom + Avangard duo are the only players KHL teams managed to get.

Like really, players worth mentioning brought in from abroad are:

Kvapil to Amur
Everberg and Sundstrom to Avangard
Pare to Avto
Vey to Barys
Lundin and Ramo to Jokerit
Hanzl to Lada
Kubalik and Phil Larsen to Salavat
Holik to Severstal
Zackrisson and Bergstrom to Sibir
Garbutt to Sochi
Bailen to Vaxjo
Burstrom, Mozik, Rissanen, Mankinen to Vityaz

So reworks like Bailen, Kvapil and Pare aside that leaves very little to excited about. Vityaz did great, they are at least trying. Finnish guys are gambles but if they work it will be one more nice season for them. Hanzl, Kubalik and Holik are great in the sense that Hanzl and Holik are going to be the real stars on the team and Kubalik had other choices as well (including NHL, most likely). Garbutt and Vey are nice additions because evidently they were offered conditions good enough to give up on the NHL. But that is it. Days where "if you have good season you play in the KHL net year" seem to be so over.

Market started three weeks ago. A lot of players are still hoping for an NHL contract and some of them will eventually sign in the KHL. Many teams still have foreigner spots open.
I'm sure that we'll have this year, next year, then the KHL will bounce back. A lot depends on economics. Remember that three years ago a 50 million rubles contract was worth more than one million dollars, nowadays it's just 750K. This sure has its share of influence on how things do for foreigners.

Well they still have Karhunen so they are signing him as a backup which is not too bad.

Hanzl meanwhile has been stolen from Lada by Neftekhimik. That has to feel bad.

Tikhonov, meanwhile, extended his contract with SKA. I guess he sees Shipachyov's departure as an opportunity.

Well, that last part is just sad.

Indrasis, meanwhile, signed a contract with Riga. That is something.

Jokerit GM was saying that the market is very quiet at the moment and apparently everyone is looking out what Vegas does.
