Safety crews at Kansas Speedway had to peel*back the front windshield of*Aric Almirola's car and help him*from his vehicle*after a*fiery wreck late in the Go Bowling 400.*
Almirola was conscious and speaking with safety crews as he was placed on a backboard*and taken via helicopter to a local hospital for further evaluation. The extent*of his injuries are not yet known.*

Joey Logano appeared to get loose after a right-front issue with 68*laps remaining and got into the right rear of Danica Patrick's car, sending her into the wall. Logano then got smashed again by Almirola, who was apparently unable to swerve away from the wreck in front of him.*

Ouch. Hope AA is OK. Tough hit but we've seen guys walk away from worse. Wonder what happened to Aric's car.

QUESTION IS what caused the rotor on the 22 to explode like that though, without little to no warning, that's the issue mechanically and why teams were having soft pedals on it, is it this package that contributed to that and 205 in to Turn 1, as Logano said....
just not what RPM needs to have happen after failing LIS, AND THE L1 penalties, which is what the major issue in tech inspection needs to happen, there's no need to have 11 cars not take a qualifying lap.... what I think needs to happen is have every car go through technical inspection before taking a practice lap.... that's getting very annoying when you watch Qualifying after these practices, and find out those cars fail tech multiple times, and having them forced to start on owners points for not taking a qualifying lap....

Congrats to Truex.

update:

Almirola has a T5 Compression fracture in his back but has been released from the UK Medical Center and is back in Mooresville, NC, it is expected to consult later this week but RPM will release an update on who will likely fill the seat of the Smithfield Ford at a future date once he returns to NC.

Well, brake rotors have exploded before. That's not really unique. And there is no doubt it was a hard hit for the 22, 10, and AA. But given the visual impact to AA's car, it just doesn't seem like he shouldn't have just got out and walked away. I'm really curious what may have broken in his car.

Inspection procedure and the Kansas incident involving the 10/22/43 are under review by NASCAR, THE 43 is being held at the R& D Center to determine why that car hit the 22 Logano at the angle it did....

also 4 stages of 100 laps now in place for the Coca Cola 600.

Temporary replacement for Aric Almirola will be Regan Smith; there will be a further update on AA, and his timeline to return at some future point this weekend as we have the inaugural Monster All Star Race
