Craig Smith

What's happening with Craig Smith? I know he's had a lower body injury and did play last week (or the week before?).

Is it still bothering him or has he been a healthy scratch? If he's healthy I find it difficult to believe he can't contribute.

As far as I know, he's been a healthy scratch and I honestly think think that he's been missed. I'd take him in the line-up over all of McLeod, Zolnierczyk, Parenteau, Fiddler, Salomaki and even Aberg.

If that's the case, it's kind of strange since he played 78 games in the regular season and suddenly he's not good enough?

Someone reported he has a high-ankle sprain, which would make sense. Those things are a bear to get over.

Smith is not a healthy scratch. He is still injured, but they are keeping pretty quiet about it.

I know he was hurt at the start of the playoffs but I thought he was healthy by the time the Blues series ended?

He was still hurt but tried to play. It didn't work out. He is one of those guys that for the most part would not be healthy scratched, especially when down a player like Fiala.

He's one of many players that are Madison natives and University of Wisconsin players who we like to follow. Damn shame.

If Vegas likes him it's very possible we've seen his last game as a Predator.

There is no way we're playing Parentaeu over Smith unless there is an injury.

Right now, I'd rather keep Smith than Wilson. If you're not going to be "playoff Wilson" and you're equally as horrible during the regular season, at least keep the guy that has shown an occasional ability to put up 20 goals.

Wilson was better than Smith this regular season, was the teams best forward in 2 of the last 3 postseasons, is signed for one less year and has a smaller cap hit. So, no.

And Craig Smith was one of the better forwards on the team in 2 of the last 3 regular seasons.

Honestly, as bad as both were this year, I don't really care.

Playoff performer mean jack if you can't get there or if you get there and do jack. Wilson is the must go player. I'd keep Smith. Even if Smith is selected, I'd personally still buyout Wilson. Heck as bad as Ribeiro was, I'd take him over Wilson right now.

Fact about Wilson is he gets hurt a few times a year typically when he is at his peak and it always takes him a month or more to recover to pre-injury status if he even recovers.

without speculating, because that get you in trouble here..... He may or may not have a high ankle sprain. He may or may not have went through practice on Wednesday. He may or may not have been able to put no weight on it Thursday.

I am guessing they are not going to let him practice and just give him a go tonight or game 6 and let him tough it out. That last part is just my opinion though.

This is a really dumb opinion, all of it, but especially the bit at the end about Ribeiro and a buyout.

A little stat searching. Wilson outscored both Smith and Jarnkrok in less games this season.

Last season both Smith and Jarnkrok outscored Wilson, with Wilson playing less games.

The season before that, Smith barely outscored Wilson with a few more games played and both killed Jarnkrok in scoring that year.

Playoffs

14-15
Smith and Wilson even in points at 5 in 6 games. Jarnkrok with 2 in 6 games.
15-16
Wilson 13 points in 14 games. Smith 2 in 11 games. Jarnkrok 1 in 14 games.
16-17
Wilson 4 in 11 games. Jarnkrok 2 in 14 games. Smith 1 in 4 games.

Calle is the best defensively out of the 3. Wilson is the best on the puck in the corners. Smith probably has the most hustle and physicality of the three although Wilson does not get bullied off the puck.

Calle has 3 points in 28 game in the playoffs, one of which is an empty net goal.

Wilson is a guy that wins you games in the playoffs. To me this is an easy decision between the three. Wilson, Smith and then Jarnkrok, in that order of who I'd keep. And to me it's a no brainer. And anyone who says contract plays in to this, I don't want a soft center in Krok during the playoffs. He is just not a playoff warrior. He's a good player but he's replaceable. His contract doesn't make up for his inadequacies on the ice.

I honestly don't care too much who they lose to expansion. They're all far from irreplaceable. I'd rather lose Smith because he has the worst contract and only gets worse every year, but I won't lose sleep over any of them playing in Vegas.

I agree Jarnkrok is the weakest of the three and is just getting manhandled in this Duck series. I would give Jarnkrok up before I did Wilson or Smith. He seriously will need to put on some more weight/size and muscle next year if he is in our lineup. We are seriously weak down the middle/center position and will need to get bigger and stronger centermen in the near future.
