My theory is the league gives the 1st overall pick to the Habs that year as a gift for their centennial

Make sense to me.

Personally I really like Zack Kassian from the Peterborough Petes, he's a prototype power forward and a right-handed shooter. It's just that I feel we don't have this player in our system already and that he fits a need too. Semmed like a good skater from the two games I've seen of him, maybe not Pacioretty level, but good. Due to the depth of the draft, he could be available in the second round. Sure as of right now he doesn't look like a 1st rounder but I'm very high on him and I wouldn't be surprised to see him rocket up the chart comes draft time because of his size / style of play.

His teammate Zach Tatrn is also in a similar mold, he plays center however but that sure isn't a problem! I'm looking forward to what both these guys will do next year.

Nothing has been confirmed yet (at least to my knowledge), but I just have a feeling he'll go USHL / NCAA. I feel like he'd already be in the Q if he was going to play for Val d'Or or Quebec; just a gut feeling. One way or the other, I'll change it as soon as it is confirmed.

Besides these two, how is '09 shaping up for Swedish prospects? stronger then this year's '90's? You seem to follow a lot of the European leagues, how are the other countries looking for '09 as they hype for North American '91's is in full force, just trying to get a feel for how good the '09 draft is going to be, as I keep hearing it could end up the best draft of the decade.

Could you send me a private message (or post here) as soon as all seasons are over in Sweden; at this time I'll check back all the stats and size for all players. With all the copy/paste I've made in these posts, I'm not surprised there are mistakes, and I'll correct it eventually. Thanks a lot for your input, by the way, it is very appreciated.

And since you know Swedes a lot, could you suggest a new ranking by position (Forwards/D-Mens)?

EDIT : I used Elite Prospects website for stats/size, do you know any better to suggest?

3 Sudbury guys, nice! A lot of people consider Maggio the one whos gotta fill in Staals skates so to speak (the poor kid), and theres a feeling of optimism in the air right now around the Wolves with the possible team shaping up for next year. Do you have any insight as to Richard Panik? As in, does he want to stay in Europe for another year, or is he leaning towards a possible move to the CHL. A lot of Wolves fans are hoping management gets him to come over as the Wolves do hold the first overall pick in the Euro draft this year. And maybe some insight into Style of Play? All I've heard is "PPG game player" and "Its been a long time since someone his age dominated among 19/20 year olds". Pretty vague....

I've heard the same stuff than you about Panik, and that's why he's ranked number 1. I hope he'll come to NA as soon as next year too because I'd have a better idea of what to expect from him.

Some good stuff about Maggio, I'll put him in front of his teammate Hermenegildo for that!

1.Ok, I'll send a message to you, and you will update everything. Right now it's playoffs in Sweden.
2.Eliteprospects is a great site, and what is most important, it's comfortable for users who don't have keyboard with swedish letters.
Swehockey.se is probably best site but it's not very comfortable for non swedish. Because if you need information on some player, and this player has scandinavic letters in his name, you will need to search for him manually.

Really nice start Bouze! Have to say one of the best I have seen in hfboards ever. I mean, that have to be taken some time...

Anyways, something about finns. I would have Manelius over Kivistö, but that's just me. Haula won't be playing in Finland it seems next season. He will be coming to NA. Not sure about which league/team, but at least "korkki" could know. You could privatemessage him and ask.

I think could give some kind of scouting report about Toni Rajala which you could use, if want to.

Strengths: Great skater, good stickhandler, quite good wrist shot and sees the game really well. Looking for passes, but not afraid of trying own shot. Quite good backchecker with his good stickhandling and awesome speed.

Weaknesses: Size, he isn't too short to come NHL'er, but his height isn't really good one either. And he is thin as thoothstick. Problems in own end when starting up the game.

Projection: If gets enough size(mostly muscle) 1st line forward with star calibre.

Feel free to use it(and correct possible spelling errors, my english is crappy and I'm tired). Could post something about Manelius, Kivistö and Karjalainen as well, if needed.

I think size thing is bit silly tho. I mean prolly only players(if even them) know their real numbers and those are still changing anyway.

Anthony has an awesome package of size, speed and skill...but he is not as driven as you'd like. He was seen by people in NS as the next Sidney Crosby when he left NS for prep school at 14, he dropped in the Q draft because of the threat of going NCAA.

For Sweden it seems to be the best draft in very very long time. 91 class is the strongest class maybe in history, and there are some great late 90's like Hedman, Urbom, Silfverberg, Viklund, Bjorklund, M.Johansson, Rundblad.
Lander is already in SEL on the same team as Paajarvi-Svensson, Erixon, Bjorklund and Rundblad have some SEL experience aswell.
Then, this year, Sweden won U18 WC, and half of the roster was 2009 class.

For other countries, it's very good draft or Finland, espescially compared to 2007.
For Russia it's a bad year, compared to 2008 draft. Depth is bad, and top prospect(Kuchin) has character issues(according to some players and Russia 91 coach).

For Czech I don't know. Heard that Horak, Novotny and Vincour are good prospects.
For Slovakia I know about Richard Panik, seems like a great prospect.

That's true, but sometimes the difference between players size and his listed size is too obvious. For example Myllari looked well over 220 lbs when I've seen him last time, and he is listed 214 lbs(231 lbs at swehockey which is more accurate.).

I think I'll wait for next year before starting to write / copy scouting reports because lots of things can change in the games of players until draft time, june '09. It's still nice to read scouting reports even though it's early, all information is welcome, it's a 2009 Draft Talk thread after all!

I hope you can by then scratch that "size" off from Rajala since then I could add superstar potential and top-5 pick

has long as we don't pick Charles Landry I'll be happy. He's got the biggest ego I've ever seen (I know him since he was 5 or 6 (he lived next door to me)).

All his ''friends'' hated him.

OT - Any of you guys know when tickets for the draft go on sale? Do you think it'll be a full house? I would really like to attend, just to add that to the list of hockey related events I've attended!
