Aucoin and Conroy played well tonight. The referees played even better!

Eh, we can't blame it all on the referees. But we sure can blame a whole bunch of it.

All this means is that Vancouver is doomed tomorrow!

Positives:
Some excellent work on the PK after that first goal particularly the 5 on 3.

Kiprusoff continues to shine. Making some huge saves.

Negatives:
Very little sustained offensive pressure.

Huselius's icetime. If Keenan had no intention of playing him down the stretch, Sutter should have traded him for that rumoured third round pick.

Not protecting the front of the net.

It still somewhat surprises me that Theodore has had such a good bounce back season. It's even more surprising the fact that the Avs one of top ten defensive teams in the league. There's also the fact that teams on a losing streak are often hungrier for it.

Why was Kipper pulled midway through the third? Was it because of an injury of somesort, was it for rest, or something else?

What a joke the officials are.

Pretty happy with our effort overall though. Thought we played well enough to win, just couldn't get any bounces. One complaint has to be the PP. It is just killing us right now. We have talented enough players, but for whatever reason it just isn't clicking right now. Need to improve this part of the game fast if we are going to go anywhere in the playoffs.

Can't blame the team for last night's effort. They neither played outstanding nor was it one of those well-known lacklustre-efforts. IMO the game could have gone either way, but the Avs were able to convert one of their PP-chances into a goal, while we failed to do so.
Langkow had a huge opportunity to score right at the beginning of the first period, but that's the way things go. The second goal sealed the deal for the Avs, but I still believe there should have been an icing-call. I gave my MVP vote to Kipper, who shined once again and cannot be blamed on any of those goals. HM go to Aucoin, Iginla and Regehr.

From listening to the game I thought the play was pretty evenly matched, and I'm glad to see others found the same thing. Losing this game isn't the end of the world.

On the plus side the shot totals weren't too out of whack, and there were fewer than 30 shots for the Avs, which is something that's happened far too often for my tastes. Also, killing the 5v3 was huge, and almost getting a shortie on it as well.

Here's hoping we get double the goals against Vancouver tonight to make up for the shutout!

EDIT: Kipper gets my MVP vote btw.

We played a good "road period" in the 1st, and then never won another puck battle all night. I wasn't thrilled by the reffing, but I've seen much worse this year (aside from the blown icing call).

The officiating wasn't very good but why complain when you can't even score a goal? They looked lazy in the last forty minutes and despite playing decent defense, they deserved to lose. How can you not score once in a big game like this?

Kipper was pulled in the third to rest him and out of fears he'd continue to get run. He was the MVP.

Good thing we virtually benched Huselius because once Iggy was shut down everyone knows we have an abundance of offense to make up for the lack of production from our top 2 offensive guys. Playing Primeau or Vandermeer on Iginla's wing was a stroke of genius, Keenan! I like Vandy but he doesn't have the hands, speed or skill to play that role for even a shift.

No wonder Keenan is second in all time losses and hasn't won a playoff round in almost 15 years. Keenan is really pissing me off. I hope we lose in the first round and Keenan gets canned. I would love to see it but I'm not holding my breath.

It was a great game. I'm secretly hoping Avs-Flames can meet at some point in the playoffs. That'd make for some intense matchups, wouldn't it?

Not true. He played that role in the game Saturday against Minnesota and did a good job. If I'm not mistaken, he was the one screening Harding for Iginla's 3rd goal.

Uhmmm.....

2 x 0 = 0

I didn't get a chance to actually watch or listen to the game (was too busy watching the Oilers thump Minnesota for you) but did see the highlights and that blown icing call was utter bullhooey...it hurts when it pretty much leads directly to a goal. Here's hoping you guys can come back and whoop the Cannots tonight! Good luck and Iggy gets a hattie!!
