Better insert Hordichuk over Bochenski for this one!

I don't have high hopes for this game. The Predators will come out flat, since we usually do this time of year. I can't remember the last time we played a full game...

I dont know, i think we win this one, fall apart in Detroit and then win the remaining 2 games.

..Then lose 4 straight in the first round.

well, I will be at work for this one so I won't get to see the game, but I will be around here as long as someone can keep me updated!

Keys to the Game...

Here are my five keys to the game:

1) Score the first goal - We are 32-5-4 when scoring first and 6-26-4 when allowing the first goal. Similiarly, Columbus is 24-4-6 when scoring first and 9-28-5 when allowing the first goal. This season we have outscored Columbus 8-2 in the first period and that has allowed us to feast on them all year long. This trend must continue tonight!

2) Must make quicker decisions in the defensive zone - Columbus gave us some trouble and were able to generate long cycles that wore down Dan Ellis throughout the game on Tuesday when they were able to force us into turning over the puck in our defensive zone. On several of these instances, including many in the second period alone, we had gotten back to the puck and had the opportunity to turn up ice and move the puck prior to the Blue Jackets setting up their forecheck, however too often we tried to leisurely take refuge behind the net and allowed them to get set up leading to a turnover. We must make sure that our defensemen get back to the pucks as fast as possible and make quicker decisions to move the puck up and out over the blueline prior to the BJ's getting setup. This also means that the forwards must get back into position to support the defense ASAP too.

3) Need to find a source of secondary scoring - The top line of Dumont - Arnott - Hlavac will receive a lot of attention every game from here on out. Despite that attention, they have been able to find a way to still score a goal or two each game, but that is not enough. The game Tuesday was truly still in question in the third until Bonk put the rebound of Erat's shot past Norrena for a three-goal lead and we have to get those types of goals from the other two scoring lines if we want to win. Whether we find this from our second or third line or whether we get a couple of goals from our PP, we need to have more than one line contributing to win a gritty, grind it out style of game that we will see tonight.

4) Play with discipline - We need to play with discipline tonight more than other nights. With Gary Bettman in the stands and the rivalry brewing strong from our meeting Tuesday night, this game is a powder keg waiting to explode. I have no doubt that Jared Boll will find a way to play (especially after Hordy's comments this morning - which I think were designed to get some of the attention off Tootoo and draw it to him) and we (stupid, but necessary) will re-insert Hordichuk into the lineup as well. Bottom line is that Columbus has nothing to lose and will be prone to play more aggressive because they have nothing to lose. At the same time, we have a lot at stake and not very much depth to get caught in this style of goonery that most CBJ fans are wanting. Therefore, we must really stick to the philosophy that our players need to do what they do best...meaning that the scorers need to work at scoring, the checkers need to check, and the fighters need to fight - do not cross roles as it will only hurt us in the long run. Trading Weber for Rome is a win for CBJ, equally trading Nash for Tootoo would be stupid as well for the Jackets. Look for Hordichuk and Tootoo to split their fights with Boll and whomever else wants to go after them, but beyond that...I don't want to trade out anyone else, we can't afford it in this game and we certainly can't afford anything stupid that could lead to suspensions either.

5) Play a full 60 minutes of deseperate hockey - There is no time to sit back and let things play out. Columbus showed Wednesday that they are going to play with pride and passion in front of their fans and certainly showed they can dominate when they put their game together. We must come out strong and continue to play strong throughout the entire game. One of the major stumbling blocks for us this season that has lead to some lacksidasical play has been after we fail on the power play. This gives the opponent some momentum and has effectively worn down our top players while resting the opponents. Therefore, we must try to stay out of the box to avoid going on the kill and at the same time do their best to throw pucks on net and generate scoring chances on the PP.

Its very important for the Predators to not sit on this lead, we cannot allow Columbus momentum.

hey, they can call us whatever they want so long as we get the 2 points.

I've been pleasently suprised with the play of Mr. Hlavac so far.

actually i think the quote was that we are the evil empire = star wars empire. i think that would make tootoo more like a stormtrooper, we really don't have a vader. although i do think of sully as luke-like figure. perhaps trotz who looks physically challanged(neck) would qualify as vader-esk.

Ahh ok, and nah to me Trotz is more like Yoda if we're discussing looks only.

Near complete domination this season, with only the SO loss in January.

Great win and just when we needed one.

Barring a complete Wild collapse, the Preds will be back into a playoff position.

Solid road game from the Predators. We still sat back a little too much for my liking and again had trouble clearing the zone. Still, two killer goals and some great goaltending and we walk out happy. We really needed these points. Hopefully we can build on this and finish off the season strong!
