Small guys that arent good at skating have a tough time in NHL or any form of pro. While I wont write off Debrincat, id still take Benson over him even after this year

CHL is littered with sub 5'10 players that lit up scoring.

Yes there is Gaudreau and Johnson, but most good small players have great skating

I think the list of 100+ point OHL scorers that don't make the NHL is much shorter.

edit: I was curious. There's been 23 100+ point scorers in the OHL since 2010. Charlie Sarault(Ducks UFA, bust), Dane Fox(Canucks UFA, bust), Andrew Mangiapane(Flames pick in 2015, just had a decent rookie AHL season) and DeBrincat(the only three time 100+ point scorer) are the only guys who haven't played NHL games.
The OHL is a much better league at development than either the Q or the WHL. At least for forwards.

Not only do the Edmonton Oilers not owe any of us an explanation, it is my opinion that it is illegal for them to do so without Benson's consent.

I really don't understand the infatuation you have with getting a 19 year old kids medical records released publically. Who cares?

Same goes for any other player in the league....

I understand your concerns, and perhaps the exception here is that they are professional athletes. They have every right to medical priviledge. You have to agree that we get exceptional access to players that we don't get with everyday citizens. It is part of the position that goes with multi million dollar contracts, to a degree.

Having said that, if it were not a sporting injury, as in Cancer or MS, I would totally agree with you it is absolutely none of my business.

I think you are taking the high ground and missing the point here. Draft picks are extremely valuable resources. You could argue they are the life blood of an organization. We are fans of that organization and together we don't want to see it be wasted.

Our team has a responsibility to know everything about the player and screen every inch of them to ensure they don't miss.

Our team did that assessment of Benson and it looks like they missed. My question is can we do better, should we not be asking questions on the process?
I am interested in knowing the answers to that regarding one of key prospects.

It's coming off as if you are looking for a reason to call for someone's head after a very successful season, or adding to the list of reasons why this management team is as inept as the last.... they aren't. Trust the system and trust the process, it seems to be working.

Vancouver acquired Brad Morrison today, he is one of the better players in the WHL today and a 4th round pick of the New York Rangers.

This means two things to me:

1) This is awesome news for Tyler Benson, Morrison is a legit star centre at the junior level and will help carry the load with Benson and Ronning, potential forming a line with them.

2) Benson won't be traded... at least not right away. This indicated that the Giants, who were set to make a jump forward anyways, are going to try and ice a competitive team.

Good news!

I don't see how he doesn't make the world junior team this December.

Ehhh... Morrison isn't THAT good. He'll definitely help the Giants, but it's not like they brought in Sam Steel or anything.

52 points in 61 games isn't anything to get overly excited about.

At least they are trying to get him some help... Does anyone have an idea if he is skating? Heading to surgery? (Able to walk?)

Hopefully his recovery has been going well. First that I've heard of the surgery, hopefully he stays healthy next season and has a big season.

I hope he's back 100% now and the surgery completely corrected what was wrong with him. The Oilers need him to have a big year, guys like Benson are going to be important moving forward (IE cheap talent)

Wishing this young man some luck. Man, has he ever had a bad run. Missed a lot of crucial development time, and has a ton of catchup now. A real project.

Apparently he'll be ready for the Oilers prospect camp right after the draft.

He's being pushed in on an ECMO machine.
