Great news! Hopefully they learned their lesson regarding 35+ contracts.

Amazing news. The best part about this, obviously other than him being gone, is that Sakic didn't even ask him to waive his NMC. They just wanted no part of Beauchemin being on this team and made it happen. He can take his "Stanley Cup attitude" elsewhere.

I thought someone posted on here a quote from Sakic post-Stuart buyout that he indeed has learned that lesson. Shame it took several embarrassing kicks at that can before realization set in.

And if he hasn't...he's the dumbest front office exec in the league.

I didn't hate Beauchemin which says a lot about him as a person considering how bad of a player he was last year.

I wonder if he sold Kroenke on the flushed 3m with the promise that a defenseman on an ELC would be coming in a trade soon to replace him.

Kroenke actually saved 1.5M in real cash buying out FB. Less whoever takes the #7/8 role, but it was a positive financial gain regardless.

Watch FB actually train hard this off-season and play for two more years.

That was my point, though. He still has to pay Beauchemin to NOT play, as well as pay somebody else to play in his spot. No matter how you slice it, that 3m is paying for nothing.

And Beauch was never played like a 7-8 defenseman on this team last year. We need a guy to come in and play the left side every night. Unless Bigras comes right in and does that, we need to add somebody to the left side now. That player needs to be paid less than 1.5 million, or else there's no monetary savings at all. If we sign Kulikov there, Beauchemin for one more year would actually be cheaper.

A bottom 4 of Barberio, Bigras, Mironov and hopefully Lindholm should be pretty decent, right? If they aren't great, at least they have the excuse of youth/potential.

it can't possibly be worse than a bottom 4 of Tyutin, Gelinas, Goloubef, and Wiercoch

I love everything they have done so far. Need to do more but firing Army and now getting rid of this stiff. So happy.

Beauchemin is trash and the coaches likely would have fallen into the trap of using him in a top-4 role once again because of his presence.

Good riddance.

You are missing my point. They are saving real money by buying him out even with taking into account filling his roster spot. FACT

They still needed to bring someone in regardless of him being here or not. So I don't really consider filling the top four slot against his salary. We all knew he wouldn't be a top four player next season.

This news is so great that losing out on Drouin and Sergachev can't even wipe this smile off my face.

I was never a big Sergachev fan, but yeah I would've loved Drouin. Oh well, Beachemin gone is a massive plus.

I would have loved Sergachev which the team needed, but Drouin acted like a spoiled child and was vastly over-rated. There are cheaper alternatives, but Sergachev could be a special player and rumoured to be the player Avs would have drafted instead of Jost.

I had a similar initial response...

I mean, who's going to block all of the shots now???

Grigorenko stinks, my friend. Would be addition by subtraction.
