You actually used to post some things that were worthwhile, but now you are just a bitter, bitter man. Seriously, I've put plenty out there already on the 08-09 thread. Or are you just pretending to "ignore" me again?

Then again I guess we should just sign Robert Lang, Ossi Vaananen (who isn't even in the NHL this year) or Yanic Perreault -- that would have fixed this team

Speaking of Lang and Perreault (and I don't recall that I ever suggested Lang in the first place) how about these comments from none other than TS at the time of their respective signings with Chicago...

Lang for two years isn't a terrible gamble.

And, regarding Perreault...

Yep..good value for the 'hawks on that deal.

And, as I recall, I was more interested in Zubrus than either Perreault or Smolinski, and Zubrus has put up respectable but not stellar numbers in New Jersey though I still think they are crazy for giving him the term they did.
As for Vaananen, remind us, how is Jason Allison's comeback coming, Shelf?

And, how's Handzus been doing this season? Have you talked to Philadelphia about your theory that expensive UFA's like Briere don't improve teams?
I think this quote from last year's UFA thread pretty much debunks that I ever thought Perreault, Smolinski or any other bandage was going to solve our troubles this year:

I'll respectfully disagree about Klesla. I believe he's a top pairing guy. He's just not THE guy.
Hainsey is a second pairing guy. OKT bottom pairing. Which means we still need a top pairing d-man and a second-pairing d-man sometime between now and next year.
I see us going after a second-pairing guy for sure this year given our budget. Next year, with a higher salary floor and Foote and Feds coming off the books, I see us spending the money necessary to bring in a #1 defenseman. With $10.6M off for Foote and Feds and potentially another $2.2M from Vyborny, we'll have plenty of room, even at the new salary rates, to pick up a top defenseman, a top center and still be within our budget. We'll have to re-sign Hainsey and either re-sign Chimera or find a new PK specialist.
Its not about this year, its about next year.
|
We ended up signing a second pairing d-man by the name of Jan Hejda. We re-signed Chimera. We got rid of Foote and Feds. Vyborny will be gone this off-season. Whether we re-sign Hainsey is still up in the air. And it looks like we're on our way to signing that No. 1 center and No. 1 defenseman.
And there was also this quote...

But if Howson has any sense of the issues with this team he knows that the job isn't going to be finished this year with a couple quick acquisitions or trades. Complicating matters, its clear that ownership is not willing to go on a spending spree. This team could somehow back its way into the playoffs if the stars aligned, but I'm not holding my breath.

And this one...

We need a #2 center for 1-2 years. No need to give anything more than that.

To which I believe you said...

Ain't gonna happen my man.

I guess no one told that to Peca.
This was a fun stroll down memory lane. Bottom line is, Pitkanen, based on his injury problems is not an offer I listen to seriously for Zherdev.
