LaxSabre - From this afternoons press conference that introduced former Sabres player Phil Housley as the Sabres new Head Coach.

@BuffNewsVogl -

Jason Botterill plans to talk with Cal Petersen next week. Sabres GM sees ideal fit for goalie in Buffalo, but understands UFA option.

What I learned today was just how few Sabre fans on Facebook can spell Cal's name correctly.

Anyone know if Peterson and Housley crossed paths during Housley's time with Hockey USA during the WJC tournaments?

WGR is interviewing him next - maybe one of them will ask him about Peterson.

Housley crossed paths with Cal during the 2012 Prospects game here in Buffalo when Housley was coach. Cal was on the other team.

Petersen was on the U18 Hlinka that I think was Danton Cole coached, while the U19's was Derek Lalonde.

It's not just facebook. HFboards has a problem spelling a LOT of player names correctly. Sad, really.

To be fair, having Judd Peterson as a prospect meant we had both a Peterson and a Petersen and I know for me that's caused me some confusion for sure when referring to them

(If we draft Pettersson that would just make things even more hilarious...)

Oh it isn't just him. Pominville and Gorges are the two biggest names to be misspelled around here.

Listening to Botterill yesterday, it sounded to me like it's a long shot. He sort of sung the praises of why BUF was a good situation for Peterson, gave some reasons why he may be hesitant to sign here, then went into a Regierism speech about Peterson having the right to go to UFA. The last meeting is probably one final attempt to get him on board, but I think it's a long shot. He's one of several goalies in the pipeline and it may be he wants guarantees that the org just can't give him, like playing in the NHL this year.

There is no reason for him to not go to UFA now. The only reason these guys sign with the team that drafted them when they are in Petersen's situation is to burn a year of ELC. Petersen was Murray's screw up. Botts never had the chance Murray did.

No team is going to give him that and if he thinks hes worth that I would rather see his big headed ego walk and never talk about this team again.

Players need to learn they gotta earn it. If he actually thinks like that good luck finding any NHL team bud.

I'm pretty sure ND was still playing through the Sabres last game.

Petersen didn't want to sign to burn the first year of the ELC.

Murray talked to his "family advisor" and they knew that going to UFA was more valuable than burning a year on his ELC.

The only mistake Murray made was not pushing harder to sign him in 2016 or even 2015.

I wonder if Vegas taking Ullmark would increase the odds of Petersen signing here.

Don't forget Dennis Peterson the mid 2000's 1st or 2nd round D that never made it past the AHL.
