Certification is bad news for the OHL.

The OHL/CHL has backed itself into a corner through a long history of irresponsible (arguably greedy) behaviour and is now moving quickly towards its comeuppance.

Absolutely. Began to really breakdown over 40yrs ago with the end of the Sponsorship Era. Without the ongoing support of NHL & the odd minor-pro club in order to survive they were forced into adopting a sort of mini-pro business model. Actual "player devekopment" being replaced with a need to win now at all costs in order to fill seats & sell sponsorships which when combined with the lowering of the Draft Age has resulted in a dumbing down of the game over the past several decades.

The Alberta action has likewise been certified by Justice Hall on June 15th.

One significant way in which Hall's Alberta ruling differs from Perell's in Ontario is that claims of conspiracy, unjust enrichment and several others are certified.

The text of the ruling is here:

The Quebec case begins early next week.

Class action suits often take a very long time to reach courts. Do not assume that verdicts rendered in 2016 are derived from complaints lodged in that same year.

And let's not forget it's a bit more involved than that...

If a player attempts to negotiate a contract (but there is no negotiation of CHL contracts) or does not sign a contract to play hockey for a little money with a team, it's nearly impossible to play hockey for a little money for any other team - all in the guise of being able to call the players "amateur athletes".
