The Avs even put in an instagram snap of Cal.

I would prefer him to Liljegren. Good pedigree and I like the Rockets defensive development program. They have a very good track record. I have a feeling that Heiskanen gets taken in the top-2 and that Patrick ends up sliding.

NJ- Heiskanen
Philly- Hischier
Dal- Vilardi

That'd be phenomenal but there's no chance. Even if Patrick falls out of the top two, there's no way Dallas takes Vilardi over him.

McKenzie's final rankings are officially out

1- Hischier
2- Patrick
3- Heiskanen
4- Makar
5- Vilardi

http://www.tsn.ca/hischier-rides-met...nking-1.783025

Vilardi dropping to 5 isn't good for us.

Edit: That's an interesting bit: "Seven of the 10 scouts surveyed had Makar as a top 5 pick, including the one who had him first overall. Makar was no lower than No. 7 on any scout’s list."

So the lowest Makar was ranked on any list was 7. That's very high.

Well, does it really impact the Avs? They will make their own pick based on their list regardless (although McKenzie's list does reflect scouts'opinions).

I am fine with any one of Heiskanen, Makar, or Vilardi at pick number four. I can understand the logic behind any of them. I would also be okay with Mittelstadt or Glass. In this draft, I have tried not to fall in love with one particular prospect in this draft to avoid disappointment.

At this point, I would not be surprised to see Dallas draft Makar at number 3 and Colorado subsequently pass on Heiskanen to select Vilardi.

In some ways, losing the lottery may have been a blessing, as it will force the Avs to at least strongly consider drafting a defenseman high, which their prospect pool may need.

All that matters is what Dallas's list says.

We're drafting Makar aren't we? Unless Dallas takes him at 3 and Heiskanen falls into our lap by some celestial miracle.

Makar would be a bit out of the box for them but he might be the most talented player they can get and they love a good combine interview.

Anyway, I wrote my draft plan from 4th to sleepers

If they pick Makar id have to think Barrie is on the way out within a year or so.

Maybe, but I would think that Makar is probably at least two years away from the NHL.

God I hope not. The hype on this kid is absurd.

More than I would be if we drafted Heiskanen, yeah. I just don't think his size will allow him to ever play against top competition so we're looking at having another Tyson Barrie and not a potential top pair LHD like we desperately need.

Makar would certainly be their Barrie replacement. With any luck he could become better than Barrie and not need to be sheltered once he develops

As much as ive harped on drafting D, im not a fan of that idea of Makar at 4

unless of course they have another deal(s) coming in bringing in another first or fwd prospect that would essentially replace whoever fwd they could have taken there.

in that sense then if Heineken is gone then i guess he'd be the best D they are gonna end up with when its all said and done.

can we just trade down ...plz.

He's literally Erik Karlsson's size and plays literally Erik Karlsson's style. You don't draft him in the hope that he'll play against top competition, you draft him in the hope that he'll become elite.

Mittlestadt had the worst V02? Geez. Isn't that the one that's the most genetically based?

IMO if anybody is expecting Makar to develop into Karlsson... they are absolutely crazy. Karlsson might not be a generational defensemen, but he is very close to it. It could happen, but just seeing a stylistic comparison is not nearly enough to say 'next Karlsson.'
