American Hockey League: The Loveland-based Colorado Eagles of the ECHL are considering a move up a level to become the AHL affiliate of the National Hockey League\'s Colorado Avalanche, possibly as early as the 2018-19. The Colorado Eagles are the current ECHL affiliate of the Avalanche, while the San Antonio Rampage is the current AHL affiliate of the Avalanche. The AHL plans to expand to 31 teams for the 2018-19 season, since the NHL is adding the Vegas Golden Knights as its 31st team for the 2017-18 season. The NHL\'s St. Louis Blues lost its affiliation with the AHL\'s Chicago Wolves, as the Wolves signed on to be the AHL affiliate of the new Vegas Golden Knights starting with the 2017-18 season. The St. Louis Blues will be the only NHL team without its own AHL affiliate in 2017-18. If the Eagles and Avalanche work out an AHL affiliation for 2018-19, the San Antonio Rampage would be available to become the AHL affiliate of the St. Louis Blues.

The Denver post has reported the Colorado eagles are in discussions with
the ahl to become an AHL affiliate of the colorado avalanche.
By the way San Antonio is the last outpost.
The ahl lacks real commitment to this beautiful city. The riverwalk is very beautiful. I just feel it is only a matter of time before the ahl leaves this city. It is a shame
The ahl is a real soap opera even if you disagree , thank you for listening.!! Yes I grew up in the NAHL, the old ihl,the old ahl etc. Does any one remember john brophy and the long island cougars Maine Nordiques(old pro nahl) Utica comets and broome county dusters
Yes, lived in Johnstown and was a Jet fan. Still remember beating Syracuse in the playoffs, before sweeping the Broome Dusters in the finals. Johnstown had been something like 0-58-3 in Syracuse and pulled out a 5-4 win with Steve Carlson scoring the game winner with a little over 2 mins to go in the 3rd period. Should have repeated as champs, but the movie Slap Shot was being made and that distracted the players.

"JungleJon":

Yes I remember the NAHL well...............

Players were not the most skilled but they gave you what they had, games were exciting and loved the fights......

Back then men were men, and hockey was real hockey..........

That's kind of dumb that these leagues take all these weekday dates but weren't all playing on Friday and Saturday nights when the best revenues were possible. These minor leagues need the weekends to survive.

Been saying this since January....it is 100% going to happen exactly like that Colorado will buy 31st team and move them into Loveland and St. Louis will end up in San Antonio

There is more to it that that however. Friday and Saturday nights are also the best night for concerts, kids shows, basketball games, etc, so arenas are often booked. Also, playing the same team on back to back nights isn't always the best for attendance, and teams have to travel and can't always get to the next available city for a game the next night.
