90 goals by our first line.

Who thought at the beginning of the season that Kovalev, Plekanec and Andrei Kostitsyn trio will have over 90 goals.

I can only think of Spezza, Alfy and Heatley of a trio who got more goals than them.

BTW, is it possible to Andrei Kostitsyn to pass Koivu as the 5th best scoring leaders of his team ?

hell ya it's possible, he needs 4 points in 2 games, including a game in Buffalo where the Habs have had there share of success.

I simply love his shot. Neast year i expect atleast a 60 point season (injury free of course). His confidence has sky rocket since the start of the season. He works and hits alot more then i thought he would, he just needs to control the puck better in traffic

And to think 7-8 years ago we would have said the same thing but instead of "5th best scoring leader", we'd say "scoring leader".

Oh so I do get the last laugh after all.

Or Ovy-Backstrom-Kozlov. They have 93 goals.

Iginla-Langkow-Huselius. They have 102 goals.

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Filppula. They have 91 goals.

Yeah I'd really like to know our GF and GPG after Lafleur said that.

I think it happened on 11/26/07.

So the 23 games before we had 69 goals for and 62 goals against. So that's 3.00 GPG and 2.70 GAA.

In the 57 games since we have 187 goals for and 158 goals against. So that's 3.28 GPG and 2.77 GAA.

So that proves it. The entire season is all about proving Lafleur wrong.

Wow, I didnt realize that this line was comparable to some of the highest in the league, in terms of goal total. Weve been waiting a long time for this type of 1st line, and Pleks and Kostitsyn are still basically rookies.

You know the most impressive thing is what Demers pointed out last night, check out the salary totals of any other 1st line in the league and then check out ours. Compared to the Sens top line, its like 10million less!!!

Beliveau is a class act, but coming from someone who is living Cornwall. Not surprising at all.

69 Goals in 23 games played for a total of 3 GPG

187 Goals in 57 Games for a total of 3.28 GPG

I thought it was less then that in the first quarter.I guess what really made Lafleur say that was the back to back loses to the Sabres and the Shutout of Thibault

Also:

Koivu: 0.83 points per game before Lafleur
0.69 points per game after Lafleur

Kovalev: 0.83 points per game before Lafleur
1.12 points per game after Lafleur

Clearly shows Koivu needs coddling and praise to motivate him and Kovalev likes the harsh treatment. This makes sense with the differences in the Finnish vs. Russian cultures. That's why players like Lehtonen and Pitkanen are such wimps.

Lafleur is a complete and utter genius.

I love it and just hope that while they keep it up next season, we can find a second line that also remains consistent next season.

lol I usually do, forgot to throw it in this time! Oh well, it happens.

But our first line has been such a pleasant surprise, obviously we all knew the talent these 3 guys have but not too many people could have expected such immediate results from Andrei & Tomas, and the resurgance of Kovy.

A.Kost potting 26 so far in his first full season, 53pts.. I am extremely impressed, obviously the future is bright for this kid. I expected progression from Plekanec from last season, but he exceeded my expectations. Kovalev I knew would have a better year than last, but I had no idea he'd play at over a PPG pace.

Oh yeah, its a very nice time to a be a Habs fan.

I'm thinking Sergei will have everyone's attention next year.. I was so insanely ticked he was left aside for the youngstars game. Kane/Gagner get all the love and Sergei gets the cold shoulder.. But his time will come!

With all do fairness, put any other 2player with Ovechkin and it wouldn't change. Ovechkin has 63Goals..thats more than twice the amount of the 2others added...

Nonetheless, it is great company, Ak-Plek-AK really works well together and deserves recognition.

I think we will see a really good second line next year. Higgins will be playing for a long term RFA contract, Sergei will play a full year from start to finish and I think will dominate at times and Saku too will be playing for a UFA extension either here or for a good offer elsewhere...not to mention that if Ryder is re-signed he may step back inot his 30 goal ways with those named players and Lats is there in the mix and Grabs as well (although I am not sold on Grabs).

I think we will have solid 2nd line players, lets hope the Kovalev of 2007-2008 can be the same next year as well.

Yeah I agree. I think A Kost needs to take more shots and be more selfish. The guy has 27 goals on 152 shots (17.2%) whereas Ovy has 63 goals on a mind boggling 436 shots (14.5%). All the great scoring wingers take around 300 shots a year. He could easily be a 50 goal scorer year in and year out. He just has to improve his positioning and hockey sense to find the places to get openings to score.
