AVs have nearly $20M in Cap space and the owner is an heir to the Walmart fortune. They have plenty of money and can easily retain for better players or prospects.

Duchene has been very clear Nashville is a preference. The other teams are more hesitant to make offers knowing he will likely head to Nashville anyways. This evidently complicates making a trade, should the Preds offer more for now or get him when he's a UFA in 2 years?

Preds are likely downplaying their interest to keep the value down. I still believe Mashville remains the favorite.

The only way we are even considering Duchene this year is if Fisher is definitely not coming back

You don't say no to Duchene if the price is reasonable just because a 37 year old Mike Fisher might come back.

Just as you don't say no to Duchene because you told Nick Bonino he had a chance to be the #2 center.

I just bought Duchene hockey on the Apple store so have done my part in crafting Preds mojo.

Sakic is reportedly asking an insane return for him, and the teams rumored to be interested (Preds, NYI, CBJ) did not want to meet the price. It is not like Sakic's back is against a wall here.

Truthfully Sakic has more opportunities to move Duchene other than right now: the trading deadline, next summer, next trading deadline for examples. Now it is a gamble as Duchene may let all of this be a distraction and stink it up on a bad team lowering his value.
But he could also come in, tear it up, and come the trading deadline Sakic could be getting a call from a contending team whose 3rd line center they signed to be the 2C ended up being, well a 3rd line center.

His value gets higher the closer to the Trade Deadline we get.

Of course, the Avs might shock the world and be in the running for a playoff spot, which would make any trade moot...

If the price was reasonable he'd already be in gold.

If it suddenly becomes "reasonable" then yeah, you make the deal and do what you have to, but I think thats highly unlikely because of how Sakic played this thus far.

We will have to wait until 2019, I suspect
