Boston still has a game tomorrow too though. I seriously doubt this happens to them twice. Let's just wait until the end of this Ott-Bos game before we speculate. Someone needs to make an official "playoff possibilities on the last two days" thread once it's over.

exactly...the only thing sure right now is that either Wash or Car will miss the PO and the other will finish 3rd

as of right now, it's

6th 94pts Ottawa
7th 94pts Boston - 1 more game
8th 93pts Philadelphia - 1 more game

if you're Boston or the Flyers, do you want to win your last game and face Washington?

Yeah, but mostly for positioning. Washington is the only team that can make it in, and Carolina is the only team that can be knocked out. Everyone else is either in or out.

This is awesome. I am so glad it's come to this. Carolina's been coasting into the playoffs simply because they're in the Southleast division too many times and it's annoying the **** out of me. It's down to the last game and after sitting pretty all year... they can get kicked out with an OT loss. I LOVE it.

The official "all possible scenarios" thread

Can a mod use this as the thread for all questions abouit who we can play. I will summarize it right here for those who are wondering. There are several variables here. But after tonight's Eastern conf. games, here's the low-down.

-If Philly beats Pittsburgh, we can track down 1st by just getting a point vs. Toronto (or 2 pts. if Pittsburgh gets the loser point). In that case, as 1st seed we could face:

Boston if they don't get a point against Buffalo.
OR
Ottawa if Boston gets so much as a point.

-If Philly gets a point, but Pens get the win, we finish 2nd no matter what. In this scenario, we can play:

Boston if they don't get a point.
Philly if Boston doesn't get as little as the 1 point.

-If Philly loses outright and Penguins win, we are in 2nd no matter what. In this scenario we can play:

Ottawa if Boston simply gets one point against Buffalo
Boston if they don't get a point

With this Boston win, the mathematical possibility of playing Washington or Carolina is gone. Confusing, but this will all make sense by the night of April 6.

7 of the 8 teams in the playoffs are decided tonight.

Then it's between Washington and Carolina. If Washington gets a point they jump to 3rd and Carolina is out.

And it looks like under every possible scenario we face either Boston or Ottawa.

I actually prefer if we just lost, got 2nd and played Ottawa or Boston... or whatever combination gets us Ottawa or Boston.

We're either playing Boston, Ottawa or Philly. As of now, I have no preference.

If i were them I'd rather face Ovechkin than Crosby+Malkin+Hossa

By 6:00PM Sunday, we should know for sure who we play.

Until then...

BTW, this 3rd scenario is the most likely IMO. That would mean that, yes, Ottawa is the likely 1st round opponent. But the Panthers, Flyers, Leafs and Sabres will all play a large part in how it shakes down.

Montreal Boston or Ottawa in the first round! Most likely scenario is we play Ottawa!
I'm quite happy we've narrowed it down to those 3 teams.

No, because that would mean WSH needs to win and they'll be 3rd. If Washington loses then are 9th.

WASHINGTON CAN JUST GET 3RD OR 9TH!

As far as I understand ther is 4 (5) senarios:

- We win, Pens lose, Boston win = Sens
- We win, Pens lose, Boston loose = Boston
- We loose, Pens win, Boston win = Sens
- We loose, Pens win, Boston loose = Boston
- We loose, Pens loose, Boston win = Philly

So it's Boston or Ottawa or Philly. I know... thanks tips!
