Didn't realize Kulikov was headed for free agency. Any internet historians want to dig up the reports about how Holland was interested in Kulikov a couple years ago? Holland's thirst seems to linger, so don't be surprised if Kulikov is on our radar again.

Given what we've heard/seen from Holland's camp, I think it's fair to say he thinks we're a Stepan and Phaneuf (or similar) away from true contending.
I was never really sure why NYR would be shopping it, and it appears they weren't really shopping him but putting him out there hoping someone offered something stupid. If they were dealing a forward, I don't know why they wouldn't eat some of the deal and look to move Nash.

As for the Wings, yeah, I was putting it out there primarily as the type of move Holland would look at to make a quick turn around. Not necessarily a need, but a quick infusion of depth and talent. That said, Z and Nielsen are older, and a guy like Stepan would help transition them off the team/out of center. If Holland avoids these types of moves, I think it points towards the team being more accepting of rebuilding - even if they aren't coming out and saying it.

Don't think he's very good, but I wouldn't hate it.

It seems like any D with a heartbeat(especially if they were RH) has been, in some degree, linked to Detroit over the years. So, yea, I really wouldn't be surprised about Kulikov.

It all seems a little weird and backwards seeing Viktor Arvidson being listed as a "star player" in the same tier as Evgeni Malkin.

It's like the actual conclusion of the data is "when your players and your team play well, your team does well"....duh

Liked the article overall.

Many players missing from the chart make me question the GS (score) for each player.

Sounds like they were predicting out 2017-2018 numbers.

Perry/Monahan are not on there? Arvidsson is tier 2?
I mean a lot of guessing here. Id prefer some sort of different math here, but overall i like the theory. Feel i could design a better set of math for the analysis.

Overall Detroit 3rd last is about right LOL

Also with this article, I'm really curious as to what the heck "projected game score" is.

Like throwing weighted numbers to every aspect of a hockey game and calling it "advanced stats" wasn't subjective enough, we're going to ignore the reality and just guess what those numbers will be next season? (I assume that's what it is, I haven't really been able to find methodology behind 'projected game score' any where)

Apparently it's this...

Quote:
Here’s the formula:

Player Game Score = (0.75 * G) + (0.7 * A1) + (0.55 * A2) + (0.075 * SOG) + (0.05 * BLK) + (0.15 * PD) – (0.15 * PT) + (0.01 * FOW) – (0.01 * FOL) + (0.05 * CF) – (0.05 * CA) + (0.15 * GF) – (0.15* GA)

Right, from my understanding that is how he came up with "game score". Using actual numbers. It's subjective and one guys opinion in quantifying a player's performance. I guess it can be useful, but far from gospel.

But then he says:
Quote:
Rather than using last year’s numbers, I used projected Game Score for 2017-18 to show what kind of top-end talent teams have going into next season.
which trying to follow him down his rabbit hole of articles to find an explanation, I kind of gather it has something to do with 3 seasons of game score, then applying recency, minutes used, youth (because rookies progress linearly. See: Sheahan, Riley)....without providing the actual weights he attributed to these.

I don't know. Things like this just bother me. You take stats, give them subjective multipliers, and then apply more secretive subjective multipliers, and try to pass it off as scientific. As far as I'm concerned, you're just about as well off using a Lucky Charms rating system and calling it science.

In case anyone is interested, Nick Jensen plays for Team Velocity in Da Beauty League, which is a summer league in Minnesota.

They are composed of about half NHL players, half international players.

Here's a list of all the other players

4 on 4 game plus goalies

Games have two (2) 30-minute halves
