Fun scenario to debate though.
We wouldn't actually be able to offer him a 2-way QO. CBA stipulates that since he's played more than 180 games in the past 3 seasons and played 60 games in this past season we can only offer a one-way QO to him.

We'd be putting a lot of faith in him not just continuously re-upping his qualifying offer until he hit free agency. Or else we'd have not offer the deal and he'd become a UFA.

I believe there is a minimum percentage of your NHL salary that would be your AHL pay.

Oilers wouldn't be waiving him in any case in that situation because 10M is not a cap hit you can bury.

Funny. The alcohol abuse I subjected my body to throughout his tenure completely removed any memory of him in an Oilers uni. Congrats nonetheless to a class act off the ice.

There you go, no point debating then.

Umberger making the comeback.

We might as well go for King.

That's intriguing... wonder if the year off has helped heal him up for an 82+ game season. Guy is so good on occasion, but perhaps too slow for what the Oilers' needs. (have enough slowish wingers, centres need a minimum foot speed to cover more ice)

Dwight King is brutal and would be like the 15th forward on the team. The Oilers would be better off re-signing Hendricks.

My Brian Campbell fantasy is officially over as he decides to hang em up.

Great player, too bad we can't have him teach our young D how to outlet pass.

Bit surprising, big body, right show, popped 12 goals last year.

Who's spot in the lineup would he take?

To be fair, I don't mean the Oilers specifically, because honestly, he's not a fit here. Vern Fiddler would be more of fit, if the team just wanted a depth center, imo.

I'm just saying for the player, relatively young, good size, can score a bit, surprised he hasn't generally signed a contract. Seems like a guy Van would make use of.

My thoughts as well.
Maroon-McDavid-Draisaitl
Lucic-RNH-????
Jokinen-Strome-????
????-Letestu-Kassian

Slepyshev, Pakarainen, Cagguila, Puljujarvi are all pretty much locks for the remaining roster spots/PB. Malone, Callahan, and Rattie will be fighting for a spot as well(long shots but obviously brought in to for competition and Bakersfield

I don't mind Fiddler at all.
We have a lot of Chiasson type tweeners in the bottom of the roster

Yeah, I suppose Vancouver or Vegas could bring him in.

I'd give him a PTO here just to see what he's all about. It's a bit of a red flag when Dallas, Ottawa and now Calgary have all given up on him.

I think he started the season with Monahan and Gaudreau, but kinda brought those guys down.

Yeah understood. Immediately thought of the detrimental impact it would have on JP, Slep, or Caggiula and their development though.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Yamamoto get a couple games around opening day too IMO.

Doubt it. Very very rare to see a late 1st round pick get a look in the regular season. Plus I forgot about Khaira who will most likely stick this season as well

I agree that Khaira is that, but if Yamamoto as a strong camp, I could see him getting a 9 game look on the wing with Lucic and Draisaitl, with Khaira going down for the 9 games.

Oilers are not going to risk losing Khaira on waivers just to give Yamamoto a 9 game stint... Slepychev and Puljujarvi might get sent down instead and avoid waivers

I didn't think that Khaira was waiver eligible yet, they yes, more likely Slepyshev, or whoever might be waiver exempt. That said, I could see Pakarinen being waived if he's passed by guys.

Plus there's always the injuries the team might see in camp too

I don't see yamamoto fitting unless he absolutely blows the team away.
I think he will spend this season in Spokane and maybe get a couple games in Bakersfield when his season ends and start the year there the season after.

Yeah, even Schremp didn't get any NHL games when he was quite good during the pre-season.

Yamamoto isn't going to be ready this year, not at his size. 99 points isn't so outstanding in the WHL that he has nothing left to learn, just give him some pre-season games and send him down.

No one is getting waived for Yamamoto.

I don't get why people think he's even going to get a look. It's not like TM loves to play 18 year old rookies that have flaws to their game.

Something drastic is going to have to happen for him to get a look.
