What would Ottawa expect back for Neon @ 5 mill?

He bought Nate Thompson ... maybe he's including him and he's done shopping... and Dorion could easily use an analogy that doesn't quite make sense too.

Everytime he says that I always wonder if hes looking on his own fantasy roster and not the Red Wings roster.

Assuming you mean Dion.. We won't retain. Look at the deal we gave up for him and match it. But the time for that was about a month ago. We can't afford to lose him now..

Nothing anyone would realistically give up. The time for that trade was before expansion.

At 5M, Dion is solid value, signed for a reasonable term, and is a top-4 defender. Those tend to return a lot.

Ottawa could have made that trade and kept Methot, but now that Methot is gone, Ottawa has to keep Phaneuf. Plus, his salary is decreasing, so it makes more sense to keep him for a team like Ottawa that cares about salary.

For what? Toronto has nothing that Ottawa could realistically ask for in a Methot/Ceci trade.

I bet this is likely nothing, but if it is, Stone/Hoffman for Brodie/Hamilton makes sense, I think, with pieces added on each side

Stone is Ottawa's most untouchable forward... He won't be traded

I won't touch the idea of Sens moving Stone, but I think we're more likely to add a forward than we are to move one out for a defenseman.

Feeding steak to babies aside, Chabot's gonna fill that open top 4 D role sooner rather than later. Our bottom pair depth is filling out very nicely with Claesson, Harpur, Boro, Wideman all looking at least adequate, and we still have Karl-Ceci-Phaneuf otherwise.

Only deals Ottawa will make with Toronto is if we get a good player for meh future ex/Phaneuf deal.
While I agree a Ceci/JVR swap makes no sense for Ottawa and they shouldn't consider it for obvious reasons, JVR would have led your team in goals last year and had the most points out of all your forwards. He's far from a "redundant" piece for you; he'd be a huge upgrade to your top 6 LW position. A redundant example is a team like PIT trading for another superstar C to play along with Crosby/Malkin.

Agreed. The guy should be the last forward they ever consider moving and it would have to be for a huge overpayment. He brings so much more to the team than the scoresheet shows.

Looking at the contracts coming up over the next 2 years, the #1 order of business should be dropping that Bobby Ryan contract, before it costs you someone important.

Please, all Leafs fans, stop trying to dump JVR on every single team.

Absolutely out of the question. We're going to re-sign him just so the first post in the next expansion announcement thread can be "what is Seattle willing to give us for JVR?".

Another good scorer would help for sure. Ideally a center, but that is what everybody wants isn't it?

Claesson will replace Methot and while it won't be as a good a pairing at first, they'll get there.

You're probably right, best to hold onto him and hope he rebounds because if he doesn't, that will be on the light side of what it takes to move that contract.
