I kind of laughed when I opened up the rds.ca page and saw this there. I think it's a good idea and I wonder what Kovalev thinks of the whole situation.

PS I signed it, which I'm sure all of us already have

I know one person who likes the petition.

Kovalevs agent. This gives him more leverage.

How so? Do you think Gainey or any other sensible businessman could give any credit to this petition thing? Will the people who signed it stop being Habs fans if Kovalev isn't signed? Will the Bell Centre sit empty if Kovalev isn't signed? Hardly. For fans to have any leverage on NHL management, they would have to be willing to put their money where their mouth is. (Or keep their money in their pockets, at least.) And the fans would never do that in any significant enough numbers to make a dent on the team's profits.

Nobody cares about this petition except the fans. And it *might* give Kovalev a little bit of fuzzy "hey I'm wanted" feeling to encourage him to sign. But that's it.

This wont have any positive impact for Kovalev Agent with a guy like Gainey in the office.

To be honest, i dont see that much of a use for it but I still put my name on as i was thinking it was quite funny. Perhaps, both Gainey and Kovalev will also think it's funny and will help in a positive way as they will both laught together with the Agent talking how we are all extreme-fans

I didn't sign the petition for two reasons:

1- If the management starts taking decisions based on popular opinion, the Montreal hockey club will not be successfull.

2- Petitions like that are usually useless. Also, it's funny to sign a petition to keep a $6M player when there are tons of petitions that save lives. I mean it's kind of futile and cheapens out the "true" meaning of a petition (as in, why should the other countries take seriously a petition about a politic prisoner that received 50000 signatures when a petition to sign Alex Kovalev had the same number of signatures).

Ya know with the world being in the mess it is now and the pressure that most people are under to succeed in school or just to earn a living, the outlet of being a die-hard fan makes life a bit more tolerable.

I doubt it's going to have any effect on Montreal's management but if it makes people feel good to sign it, what's the harm?

I don't know if Kovalev will sign with the Habs, but if he does and for less money than he'd get somewhere else, I wouldn't rule out the possibility that part of the reason was because of this petition.

Some people agree with petitions, and others disagree. If you wanna sign the petition then do it but don't bother giving your opinion on whether or not petitions work, because what exactly is that solving?

It's just gonna make Alex Kovalev feel more welcome if anything.
