2007-08 W 0, L 3 with one game left.

Then I checked the W-L of the last four games of the previous seasons...

2006-07 W 1, L 3

2005-07 W 3, L 1

2003-04 W 2, L 2

Where's our supposed new toughness? Play until the final horn? blah blah blah ??
Blame our crunchies, or whoever, but our veterans are muffing, and this sure doesn't match up with the blarney we've been sold about Hitch turning these guys around.
JF, are you saying that our pig is wearing lipstick?

Gerard Gallant, 2005-06, 35 wins in his first full season.
Ken Hitchcock, 2007-08, 34 wins in his first full season.

We either need to make some other changes to the team or buy stock in bovine lipstick manufacturers.

Great stat, Capn.

Downright frightening, but great nonetheless.

Doesn't matter, if we finished dead last, the team in 5th place would win the lottery, knocking us into second.

Take a good look at that team in '05-06 if you want some nightmares.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/l...023302006.html

No Modin. Jan Hrdina was a disappointment with 33 points. To hear most Jackets fans, we should throw a parade for Peca for achieving the same mark. Our defense consisted of Berard, Suchy, Westcott, Hainsey, Klesla and Richardson/Hulse and our primary goaltenders were a rookie in LeClaire and Marc Denis.

We clearly have an improved team (at least on defense) and not much to show for it.

If I'm wrong on any of this, someone please correct me, but...

-Any team not in the playoffs has a chance to win the lottery. Obviously the worse teams have the greater chance at winning the lottery.

-If you win the lottery, you move 4 spots in the draft. Meaning, only teams 5th or higher have a chance to pick first. But if the Jackets at 6th win the lottery, we would pick 2nd.

-The worst that can happen as a result of the lottery is that your team moves down a spot, if a team after you wins the lottery.

No matter where we finish, someone else gets the #1 pick. At least, that's how I remember it.

With all due respect.... I could care less about drafting YET ANOTHER PLAYER who can't help us get into the playoffs. I say we package both our picks and put a winning team on the ice. To quote Mike Priest, "the future is now."

Will McConnell give another taped apology to the fans at the game tomorrow?

That's what I'm interested in... using our picks as bargaining chips to help us acquire what we need during the summer.

Then root for first round implosion of San Jose. That's about the only way we're getting a #1/#2 center for draft picks.

He should just hand out the money he saved by not spending on players.

That would be quite a chunk.

Does anyone think John H will actually spend the $50 million next year he will need to in order to keep up with the rest of the league?

I have my doubts. Might as well save the money to pay Tavares.

Columbus would lose that lottery, too.

I'm frustrated with how we finished this year...

The second half was a huge disappointment. Even with the playoffs out of reach I really wanted that 85 points. I realize it would have hurt our draft pick and therefore affect what we're able to dangle in front of other teams for a trade but I wanted some comfort. I wanted to see that we truly are getting close...

Now, I'm not so sure...

I agree with JF & JACKETS! here. Definitely trade one of the 1sts, maybe the second depending on who we can get out of it/them.

Portzline's article makes it sound like there'll be 5-8 new faces next year & that the guys added are guys we "won't have to look up".

I like the aggressiveness, let's just hope they actually follow through with it.

I find this topic kinda funny, since Jack Edwards always calls the Bruins' 4th line the "Fight to the Finnish Line"
