Glad to add Rick "Livin' La Vida Goal-Score" Martin to the Fighting Saints. We feel he brings the most and most complimentary offensive talent to Beliveau's wing at this point in the draft. He brings a ton of skill and a strong work ethic. While not necessarily an all-rounder, he'll never be a liability.

Jere Lehtinen will (for the time being) slide in alongside Robitaille and Dionne on the first line for the Freeze. He's a great two-way player who has skated alongside Mike Modano on Dallas's first line for most of his career. He's not a passing playmaker in the mold of an Oates, but he's a catalyst who makes things happen and creates opportunities. He's not a sniper either, but 25-goals a year in the dead puck era has been standard. He's a very good skater and a very hard worker ... a rink rat in the mold of a poor man's Jari Kurri.
Patrick is one of hockeys best LW in the game. He uses his hockey sense to let him tap totally into his offensive instincts be it throwing a blind past to one of his dangerous wingers or letting his sharp shot beat a goalie by potting the puck where the netminder has no hope of reaching it. He is a very fast elusive skater , leathal around the net using his lightining quick hands and reflexes are trademarks of his crafty finishing skills, deft one-touch passes are a trade marker of his game this aids Elias ability of making players around him better. He can battle with the best of them to create scoring chances whenever he is on the ice. He has superb two-way game. and is a master of slipping away from coverage and possesses great flow in his game which helps him to control the pace ofthe game. Patricks burning desire allows him to elevate his game when it matters. Once he gets his game rolling he is almost unstoppable.
He is one of the devils all time greats leading the team in scoring 7 times and finishing 2nd overall twice.
Elias was picked by New Jersey 51st overall in the second round of the 1994 NHL Entry Draft but decided to stay in the Czech Republic with Kladno for one more year before going to the NHL. At only 19 years of age he immediately joined a powerful Devils team that would win the Stanley Cup in 1995.
Impressed by his stats and his hard work in the AHL, management moved Elias up to the NHL for the 1997 playoffs and he produced immediately, scoring five points in eight post-season games. The following season, New Jersey called him up to the NHL again and he immediately met the challenge of big-league play, scoring 18 goals and registering 19 assists that year and finishing third in the balloting for the Calder Trophy as the NHL's best rookie. Close observers of the game noted that only Calder winner Sergei Samsonov of Boston scored more goals than Elias, and only Samsonov and Toronto's Mike Johnson had more points.
The one significant downside to Elias's career in the NHL since making the move to the big time came in 1998 when he failed to make the powerful Czech Olympic team that ended up winning top honours at the Winter Games in Nagano, Japan. However, Elias would get his opportunoty to shine with his homeland at the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, Utah.
In 1999-00 Elias went on to score 35 goals and 72 points in the regular season, and was instrumental in leading the Devils to their second Stanley Cup victory. Elias established career highs in goals (40), assists (56) and points (96) in 2000-01 leading the Devils to the Stanley Cup Final for a second consecutive season before falling short against the Colorado Avalanche.
A member of the Czech Republic's Olympic Team in 2002 and One of the premier players in the league, Elias captured went on to capture his second Stanley Cup title in 2003 despite having his least productive season offensively since the 1998-99 tallying 57 points (28-29-57). Elias rebounded offensively in 2003-04 with 81 points (38-43-81), yet the Devils fell short in their attempt to repeat as Cup champions
I wish Horner were still around by my pick. I almost picked him last time instead of Ross.
Horner's a nice combination of physicality and underrated offense. He's not the best top pairing guy defensively (as was pointed out to me on numerous occasions in ATD#8), but he's got size and speed so won't fall victim to any obvious mismatches. People will complain about his lack of discipline, but Red's definitely a solid pick at this point. Fetisov-Horner is a pretty nasty physical pairing.
pit - I am looking forward to you quoting The Horner Files should he come under fire in the playoffs.
Solid run last night, guys. Thanks for announcing my pick for me.
I'm very happy with the Hooley Smith pick. I almost jumped the gun and took him at 182, but I figured with the premium on top defenders, Coulter would be gone by 203. Regardless of the fact that he has obvious chemistry with his childhood friend and teammate Nels Stewart, I think he's an extremely valuable asset for any second line. A two-time allstar with high end speed and playmaking abilities, but also a top notch defensive player with great hockey sense and a mean streak. Just a guy that contributes in a lot of different areas.
And of course now I can reunite the 'S' line of Siebert-Stewart-Smith if the situation seems to warrant it.
No one PMed me.. can I have the Dallas Freeze's first overall pick?
Seriously I was sleeping... hopefully I have not been holding this up for almost six hours.
The Ottawa Silver Seven are pleased to select their starting goalie... a sure to be somewhat controversial pick. Tom Barrasso.
I am picking Barrasso because he is a good regular season goalie... and a money playoff goalie that has won 2 Cups... but also becuase he is perhaps the best puckhandling goalie of all time... The all time leader in assists for a goalie he could move the puck to his D-Man or even thread the puck to forwards darting out of the zone. Since a large part of my strategy is to move the puck out of the defensive zone quickly he is the ideal goalie for my team.
Barrasso is probably one day going to make the HHOF even if it takes quite awhile. He has a First All-Star Team nod... 2 Second Team All-Star nods and a Vezina a Jennings, lead the NHL in Wins, shutouts, goals against average and the playoffs in Avg as well.
A 19 year career though limited by injuries later on, 369 wins and another 61 playoff wins and a fiery competitior, a stickhandling and puck moving marvel.
Barasso as a starter you probably could've waited a lot longer to get him... but at least his attitude IMO will be less of an issue from that spot than it would be as a back up.
Can anyone take a list from me for my next two picks should they come up today?
There have been some excellent picks lately. Maltsev and Dye are fantastic offensive talents and are great bargains at this point. Kerr had a short prime but was nearly unstoppable within 10 feet of the net-- he was really fast for his size and had a tremendous skill for drawing penalties. Martin was one of the greatest goal-scorers of the 1970s, likely on track for a 600-goal career before injuries, and will look great on Beliveau's line. Olmstead, with his playmaking ability and willingness to work hard to obtain and maintain puck possession, is a great complentary player on any scoring line.
I'm probably Hooley Smith's biggest supporter on HOH, and I had him in two of the past three drafts. I've learned a lot about him because he was my grandfather's favourite player as a kid; he compares his style to Mark Messier in the sense that Smith was a tenacious competitor, and he was willing to check, kill penalties, and drop the gloves. Smith was a two-time Hart finalist (finishing 2nd to Eddie Shore once), and retired as the 4th highest scoring player in NHL history (twice finishing in the top four in a single season with a few more years in the top ten). Re-uniting the S Line would give Inglewood arguably the best 2nd line in the draft; but I could also see playing Smith on the top line as he'd give Lafluer/Fedorov some needed toughness, and he's one of the few skaters that can match their speed.

Barrasso is a wild card. I could definately see someone taking him at any time or he could have lasted for 2 or 3 more rounds. I wanted him specifically so I took him now instead of losing him.
I think Barrasso's attitude is a positve. Frankly if he is a jerk to the media or he is cocky.... who cares he is a goalie! On the ice he was a guy that competed fiercly and is not the type to ever, ever mail it in.
But like you said as a back-up maybe he is not the best pick.. as a starter he should be as happy as a surly, angry cout like him can be.
yeah that was my point, that I don't mind his attitude as long as he's got the #1 job. I just don't know if he'll be a successful #1 in this draft. But good luck!

Good pick for a starter. It also brings out the following fact : Many GM's would never, ever consider picking Barasso in a 20 team ATD. (I'm amongst them). But in a 32 team ATD, well, he's a starter.
