Anyone remember Raycroft? And that's just a recent example....
Looking at the reasoning they had for Raycroft back then over Ryder in theory that means they should select Price...i doubt they will but Price has acomplished a few extraordinary things this year:
->Taken the #1 job from an "established" #1 in Huet
->Gotten over 20 wins (24)...I believe that puts him in the top 5 all time in rookie goaltenders. If you sort of compare this none of the players that are eligible to be rookie of the year are probably even in the top 50 all time in scoring for a rookie...
->Has gotten stronger over the season...as his recent nomination for 1st star of the week and rookie of the month shows
All of the above are good reasons but the one that when you think about it is pretty extraordinary is him taking Huet's spot. Like him or not Huet had good statistics since he had been in Montreal and to steal his #1 job is pretty extraordinary. Having said that 24 wins in your first season...thats not too sHABy either...
IMO it is harder for a player to keep getting better as the season wears on as Price has done. It is much easier to do really well and then get worst as other players learn how you play as the season wears on

Why is toews ahead of kane? am i missing something here
I think the stats are weighted to the last few weeks. Note Price's crazy end-of-season run and top ranking. This is the same outlet that didn't even nominate him for the rookie of the year (and rightfully so). And Toews 54 points in 64 games isn't that much different, pro-rated over a season than Kane's 72 in 82.

Raycroft and Price do not have enough in common to worry about that comparison
All things considered Price has progressed well from his past resume which is outstanding. He is on track regardless of how ROTY voting goes. Kane has that locked up I think

I'd also have to say that the Hawks had a far better record with Toews in the lineup. They're close to .600 when he's in and below .400 when he's not. I'd vote for Toews too. Price played fantastic his second time around but I'd have liked to see him play another 10 games as mentioned by others.
The Calder means nothing IMHO, Price's talent speaks for itself. We'll just see over the years who has a greater impact on his team, Price, Teows, or Backstrom in this case.
Yeah, and they have Patrick Kane 5th and Andrew Cogliano all the way down at 17th.
17th!
And Sam Gagner, yeah, he's not even on the list. He doesn't crack their top 20! Sam Gagner! Meanwhile Oiler teammate Curtis Glencross is 14th.
The Oilers rookies are ranked 1) Tom Gilbert 2) Curtis Glencross 3) Andrew Cogliano and 4) Sam Gagner.
This list is a joke.
As its been mentioned many times....player must have had played at least 55 games...
The list uses various statistics....thats all...
In the end "humain" judgment is what will decide ROTY
