The Red Sox, along with every other Major League Baseball team, will open the 2018 season on Thursday, March 29, the league announced Tuesday.

It will be the first time a full slate of games takes place on Opening Day since 1968, and is the league’s earliest start to the season. The league released its master schedule as well. The Red Sox will play at the Tampa Bay Rays.

After opening the season with a four-game series at Tampa Bay, the Red Sox will stay in Florida to play a two-game series against the Miami Marlins. The Red Sox will play their home opener against the Rays on Thursday, April 5.

The Yankees come to town for a three-game series on April 10, and will also close out the regular season at Fenway for a three-game series beginning Sept. 28.

Dennis Eckersley opens up for first time about David Price, calling it like he sees it, and life as a broadcaster

http://www.weei.com/blogs/john-tomas...ing-it-he-sees

Quote:
"I've been doing this for a long time, not necessarily in the booth, but with NESN," Eckersley told Bradford. "The years are starting to add up, but there's been nothing like this year. You go back over it saying why, why did something like that happen? But to have enough distance from it now to say, well, things happen in this game. It just so happened to be me. I think it's very unfortunate for everybody that's connected with it, Red Sox, Price, me, whatever.

"It was difficult at first. I was on that road trip. That was the first game of that road trip. That was difficult, those 10 days on the road, trying to have it not have anything to do with your broadcast. I mean, you're only human. Especially when [Price] had to pitch. I think he pitched a couple of times, in Tampa, too. That didn't take anything away. I'm just doing the games and calling it like I see it and sometimes guys don't like the way you call it and see it."

Eckersley hasn't spoken to Price and probably never will.

"Ultimately this comes back to the dude doesn't like me," Eckersley said. "I get it. It's cool. Let's move on. . . . Why would I want to talk to him, you know? He's not the first guy that doesn't like me. I get it."

Neat! They weren't giving them away to the masses, were they? I thought it was just those who got the special promo. How do those "special ticket only" promos work out logistically? Do they give you a coupon to redeem for the bobblehead?

My Dad is from Detroit, the Tigers are my second favorite team, and I hope they win today. They're down 4-3 in the bottom of the 6th.

So um...that sign at the game. I don't know what they meant. Not sure if they were pro or anti racism.

I would say they were just trying to label America as racist as a whole. Someone employed had to be in on it. I pretty much got a full body search last time I was there and wouldn't have been able to sneak in a candy bar.

A banner was quickly confiscated during Wednesday night's Red Sox game against the Oakland A's.

Four fans seated above the Green Monster dropped down a sign during the fourth inning. The black sign with white letters read, "Racism is as American as baseball."
Security reeled the banner back within minutes and escorted the fans from their seats, according to CSNNE.

Red Sox officials confirmed the incident through a statement:

"During the fourth inning of tonight’s game, four fans unfurled a banner over the left field wall in violation of the club’s policy prohibiting signs of any kind to be hung or affixed to the ballpark. The individuals involved were escorted out of Fenway Park," said Zineb Curran, Senior Director of Corporate Communications.

I think their point (theirs, not mine - staying in neutral apolitical reporter mode here) is that racism has deep roots in America...as deep as, say, baseball.

I think the other interpretation - "Racism is as American as baseball, (and we seek to preserve both institutions)" - doesn't apply. Yes, I thought of it after a couple of reads, but my first (and also long lasting) impression was, "Oh, these people aren't white supremacists." I'll admit it's not the best wording to get their point across, given the slight ambiguity...

I think Fenway security is pretty lax...at least, my experience with it has been. If I go, I almost always bring two sealed bottles of water in my Bruins drawstring bag/manpurse, and I don't think they've ever carefully examined them, or anything else in my bag like pens. As far as bringing in a banner...maybe it was folded and tied neatly, and Russian-dolled in an bag alongside some other distracting items.

Sale gets the ball in game 1. Who gets it in game 2 of the playoffs? The Nats have a 20 game lead!

Pomeranz. Not even close to anyone else. The real question is game 3. Fister, Porcello, or Rodriguez. All pretty bad choices.
