Heard it on the CBC Ottawa station. Apparently a fire station painted the doors habs colors and had habs logos in the windows. They mayor wanted them removed and the fire station union said F-off.

I guess they dont want the firemen rushing to a fire while they're singing "Ole, ole ole ole"...

The firefighters acting like *******s again. Total lack of professionalism.

Btw the way this has nothing to do with the Habs. They simply are damaging the public goods because their negociations with the city aren't going well.

“We find it incredible that the mayor of Montreal doesn’t want to support the Canadiens,” union president Michel Crevier told the Gazette. “We feel pride for the Canadiens because they are Montreal’s team."

“We’re not removing our flags,” said Joel Lapointe, 40, who has worked as a firefighter for 20 years. “This is nothing negative. We’re really doing this to support the Canadiens, because we’re proud.”

Looks like most of what they painted is glass.. that will come off pretty easily.

Classic union vs city ********. How about this novel idea... working! Blue and white collars alike at the city are a joke, minus a few.

Hey they save lives, why shouldn't they get some good stuff?

Besides I don't see how painting Habs logos and etc is bad for anything (lack of professionalism? cheering the local hockey team unprofessional? joinning in on the fun with every other citizen is lack of discipline?), it's just paint, it's removable... I find it quite unprofessional from the mayors part to dictate what firemen can and cannot do in this situation, that is, doing something totally harmless and appealing to the general public.

One of the very first images I saw on CBC before tonight's game was a fire truck with a Canadiens flag on the back and I thought, "Wow, how cool is that!" If I had one of those, I'd have it stuck on my town crew truck for sure.

For a city known for it's partying and good nature, the mayor is being really uptight here. Look at Just for Laughs Gags and all the stuff they get away with on that show, all the police impersonation, so many things on public property, and everyone they prank has a great laugh at the end...

Same thing here. The city is whipped up in to a frenzy over the Habs. Don't force your employees to stay out of the celebration at work. It's not like they're going to say "Oh, I know that house, it's got Bruins fans in it, let it burn."

Well, I know there are more important issues than that but I still agree with the mayor there. They put millions of $ each year to remove all the paintings downtown so I guess it makes to not to allow the city workers to do the same thing.
