New Bauer helmet?

I've been seeing these helmets more and more often in the nhl, Milan Lucic, wears one. I'm just wondering when these helmets will come out on the market.?

It's the nikebauer 9500. As with all new gear, it comes out in the spring.

Nike Bauer will be shipping the 9500 to First Line Dealers on April 15th. This is the earliest they are legally allowed to be sold.

While it may have better foam (New FXPP vs older EXP foam) and air channels, the best helmet on the market is the one that fits your head properly.

If a NikeBauer helmet does not fit around your head as well as another company, then it is not the best for you.

Do you own a hockey store or something?

I agree with him. He's not trying to upsell anyone either. The 9500 is going to be a pricey helmet, but if it doesn't fit a head's shape properly, you're better off getting a different helmet even if it costs less.

Yeah, it's like the kids I coach who are 13 years old and buying pro stock sticks that are way too stiff for them. Just because it's high end and what the pros are using doesn't mean it's going to be the best thing for you to use.

On top of that, this is a helmet that protects your brain, not just something that gives your wrist shot more pop.

I asked him if he owned a store or something because he seemed to have the inside track on all the specs and when stores get it not becuase he's trying to promote it or anything

Vakar (Dan) works in a pro shop, and is very knowledgeable about stuff like this. He usually knows everything you need when it comes to equipment releases, info, stats, and fitting. If anyone is in the NYC area, he works in Wonderland in the Sky Rink in Chelsea Piers, so stop in he's extremely helpful just ask for Dan(He helped me out with skates and gave me a good deal after fitting me perfectly, I have no other affiliation with him. That is, I'm not pushing a product or store, just personal experience).

Now if I could only convert him to a Ranger fan

I don't own a store unfortunately, I just run one. Hehe. I try and learn as much a bout what is coming out (even if we are not carrying the product).

Absolutely. We tell everybody that if you're going to "overspend" on anything, let it be the helmet. While most everything else can heal or be corrected with surgery, you've only got one brain. Each company makes a top end helmet that has the same level of protection for the most part. RBK 8k, CCM Vector, Mission Intake, Nike Bauer 8500, Cascade, Easton S17 are all on the same level. The 9500 may be a bit above all those.

Finding the right fit for your is the key.
