Habs on The Score in English?

I was just told by a friend that The Score television network is in the works trying to set up a deal trying to show Habs games in ENGLISH as early as next year. I don't know the truth behind this and I am wondering if anyone else has heard of this? I also found this petition for it too...

I would like it but it would be really annoying watching the game with the non-stop ticker they have at the bottom.

its to big to have during a habs game.

Wow...that would be epic. It's time. The market is there. Don't tell me they can't get more viewers for English Hab games than some of the crap they show on The Score.

Yea but I heard this would only be in a certain area. I can't remember the exact details.

Don't think they'd be shown in Toronto or something.

They'd definetely only get local rights if they got it, which probably means Quebec only.... maybe the maritimes?

On the facebook group it says nationwide. I'll raise bloody hell if it is and Toronto's out. I'll be on the phone every day.

is it just SNET that blacks out for regions or does the NHL make them do that?

Not sure. I think it might be the cable companies, who want to protect their sports packages. Showing too many games for free hurts their subscriptions. I could be wrong, though.

But in the Habs' case, you can already see the Habs every game in Ontario, so what's the big deal about showing the English broadcast? We're already watching the French, if we don't have the sports pack.

NHL makes them do that.... TSN has to blackout local leaf coverage outside toronto.

Only reason RDS can go national is that they broadcast in french so its considered not to be competing with the territorial rights of other NHL teams.

This would most certainly attract regional blackouts.

The CBC package and TSN deal are National Deals... they are exclusive too... Noone else can get a national deal.

Then the teams sell local rights for games not already included in those two deals.

I'm not sure what the rights situation would be as far as the maritimes goes... they might be able to show them there....

but as for Ontario and anything west of it, definetely not.

when tsn had regional rights to habs games, they did include the maritimes. So its a possibility.

Kouleas mentioned it again last night and he said they are working on it. What that means, I don't know, but it would be really awesome if it happened.

To be fair, the Score is the least biased Sporting Media channel around.

I seem to remember that RDS has control over all of the games of the Habs and they just signed a long contract 2 years ago. In fact, when you see a Habs game on HNIC its because RDS has sold the rights for that game for that one night to CBC. I dont know if the contract has been modified tho.

I don't think so. RDS has the french national rights and the CBC deal is something completely different.
