Mike Mottau grew up in Quincy, Mass., an Irish-populated suburb south of Boston. The son of a construction worker, Mottau talks with a thick Boston accent, one that is void of R’s. He wears gray hooded sweatshirts and blue jeans. The three-time AHL All-Star had tastes of success, dribs and drabs of it earlier in the decade, but nothing solid, nothing lasting. Until now.
