NHL Mascots

20 NHL teams currently have Mascots. Storied franchises such as the Bruins and Leafs have stuffed crowd pleasers. Newer teams like CBJ and Nashville. Heck Harvey the Hound is the first ever official NHL mascot. Why not the Oilers?

I know I always get a kick out of the Eskimos Bear doing flying elbow drops on the Stampeder horse. And who can ever forget the response Harvey generated from Mac-T. The entertainment value is there. I cant see why I wouldn't like a stuffed (?) in an Oiler Jersey defilling another teams signature character.

The kids love em' and we can park him right behind Darryl Sutter next time we meet.

I think the difficulty lies in connecting a likeable character to the name. We could probably make a pretty smokin muscle man made in the mold of our rigman.

Im sure that Jim Harnock could draw something up.

Lets here some suggestions. Im sure we could come up with something.

I've sometimes thought that they could use the Oil worker character they show on the scoreboard from time to time. The character drove the Oiler car in the pregame video during the 2002-03 season, sometimes you see him spray paint an opposing fan who is shown on the screen.

The problem is how to make a mascot suit out of it? Anyone got a picture of the character I'm reffering to?

For starters, "Homer" is out of a job this fall.

I wouldn't be against a mascot either. But what? Maybe a dog, much bigger than Harvey? MacT and the mascot could have special routines for TV breaks.

:lol

Homer and Peter Puck are a touch on the lame side. We need a muscle bound roughneck dude with 40" pipes and Harvey on a leash!

No no no.. we need an old, greasy, half-drunken oil rig veteran who is a fan of screech and late-night brawls!

The New Jersey Devils have a Devil mascot-but their first mascot was "Slapshot" a huge smiling puck. An incident happened about ten years ago with the mascot groping a female fan and he was gone. So far the "Devil" has been behaving himself. I'm up in the air about mascots. On one hand their cool and add to the spirit, but at the same time they can be somewhat annoying.

I remember us having one during the early/mid 90's, it was a dog or coyote or something. I'm sure some of you remember it better than me as I was quite young and didn't get to many games.

if i remember correctly it was a dog who skated around the ice between periods with a puck on a string, tied to a hockey stick. back then i lived in saskatoon and only got to a couple games a year but the mascot was so gay that it actually made me miss the piece of pizza on wheels at the blades games in s'toon that threw frisbee's into the crowd between periods.
