Rusty is also a pretty funny guy. Saw this at the RMN's website.
Defenseman Ruslan Salei, who was acquired Tuesday from the Florida Panthers and made his Avalanche debut Wednesday in Vancouver, was taken aback by the media turnout Friday at the Family Sports Center. "I don't really see that many media people around unless you're in Canada and something really big happens," he said. "Obviously, Peter (Forsberg) is not here, so probably people are upset a little bit. But we'll try and fit him in."
Try to fit him in, indeed.

I think he's been fantastic, if the penalty trouble he is apparently getting into is anything like the two I took tonight I may go down and throw a hit on the refs. His first penalty he barely even touched the guy, the second one was slightly more legit. However he can move the puck pretty well, and hits, which is fantastic.

Yep, he's been a great addition. I asked a Panthers friend of mine how Skrastch was doing and he said Skrastins had been well with the club. Sounds like a win-win trade for both teams, hope the best for Karlis in Florida and good luck to the organization.

Definitely sounds like a change of scenery was good for both players.

Salei has been a stand-up player for us thus far this season.

I've seen a few Panthers games lately (David Booth is fun to watch!), and I actually saw Karlis make a hit the other night. He seems to be fulfilling a role pretty well. Tonight he held off Malkin on a one-on-one break. At least I think I saw that.

I think getting Salei has been one of the Avs' best trades in recent history. Skrastins couldn't skate and keep up with other forwards. He was a huge liability. Salei can do that and add some offense. Getting rid of Skrastins and his salary was great...but, to get Salei in return is unreal.

I agree. He could end up being one of the Avs most underrated trades if he continues to play the way he looks like he can. Good skater, moves the puck well, has a cannon from the point, and is tough, physical, and sound positionally in his own end. He hasn't seemed to play a reckless style that will earn him a lot of penalties, but he hasn't seemed to play a soft game either. Very good pickup, and a surprise to see what he can bring to the table offensively also.

Great. Here is to Rusty's success with Avs! Though if I were you I wouldn't expect him to be an offensive force. Salei - is an intangibles guy.

I've been shocked at how effective he is at all aspects of the game...Even the penalties he takes have been reasonable so far....

A tremendous addition.

The best trade of the year. He's not afraid to hit and shoot, good defensively.

Giguere made some great moves at trade deadline. I would give him A+ for his trade deadline moves. Forsberg, Salei and Foote.. Definately the best trade deadline moves by any team!

I'm praising Giguere here!

Salei was just what we needed. Physical... good shot...

tbh i was a little afraid when we traded for him. I remembered a certain check on Modano from when he was with Anaheim. But he's not displayed any thug-ishness at all.

Great guy. Happy that he's here for two more years.

He looks like a saint playing against Simon, Boogaard, etc...

Salei, along with Foote and Leopold, has been our best d-man. Great skating, physical, responsible, and has a point shot.
