Was in the Hamilton thread. Sucks but that's life. Was worth a try, looked fine camps, don't know why it didn't panned out.

I hope it's a great lesson for everybody who was putting him in the Habs lineup or even calling for almost being a phenom.

Can't wait to see that other phenom Brunnstrom now, and see how he'll fit in in a NHL organization.

Not a big loss. We will acquire players via trade and free agency to fill out Hamilton.

To be fair Brunnstrom is much better than Lahti.

Damn. There goes my theory for the game 1 line up:

Higgins - Koivu - Kovalev
Sergei - Pleks - Andrei
Streit - Lapierre - Lahti
Begin - Smoke - Kostopoulos

Unfortunately, we can't guarantee a top 6 spot for Fabian.

Does it say he signed with a Finnish team or just that he went home?

If he went home, he could very easily come back next season. Hamilton is out of the playoffs.. and no point for him to stick around if he's not playing hockey..

Big deal. It became apparent this guy wasn't gonna make the big club.

He signed a two year deal in Finland (forget what team).

I knew that would happen, and I think I posted about it.

He just doesn't have what it takes.

Nice. Let's replace this guy with a big north american, physical and intense player like Canada always produced. It will be simply perfect.

Actually it doesn't matter what you replace him with.

He wasn't a guy that would come to the bigs, and he wasn't a guy that would have stayed in the AHL long term to help the kids.

You could groom a goon or even bring in another European overrager (Say, Martin Pluss) to take his place.

That's what it looks like. But then you end up in a thread from Swedish posters that actually see him play, and this from a respected Swedish poster:

"I am amazed with all the Brunnström hype. The hype here in Sweden is nowhere near what I have been reading here and seen in NA based articled/magazines. He is good, he is talented and a latebloomer. But he is IMO not even close to being among the top forwards in the elite league."

Saw some You Tube moments from him, and it looks great but we did see some YouTube moments from Josef Balej and even Janne Lahti where he did look great as well. Good prospect, but future NHL star....let's just wait a little. Some team want to give him a NHL contract with a guaranteed spot? Go ahead, we'll see if it was a good decision.

As far as Lahti is concerned, I'm pretty surprised since we might lose more bodies in the summer, making room for a guy like him. I guess he was amongst the ones we are going to lose....

Agreed... Sergei seems to have stollen the final top 6 spot... 6 pts in 7 games as a rookie in his first playoffs? Yep, he's pretty good.

C'mon, while some were putting him in the lineup, to be fair, were many people really calling him almost a phenom?
-Because of the CBA changes, signing older European UFAs will become a likelier occurence than before.
-Just looking at the miscommunication between Anton Stralman and the Leafs in attracting him to North America, we see the conflict between a club that wants to attract SEL etc... to NA at all costs and players that expect to play in the big league.
-People wondered why an older Scandinavian would take a big pay cut to come over just to play in the AHL. Could promises have been made by the organization? Was he just coming by his own volition to see what he could do in NA? It was never very clear.

We should sticky the threads where people had him on the top line as a reminder to not go crazy over unproven commodities, lol.

I never had him in any lines that I've projected...to be fair I only did about 3 and knew little about Lahti.
The teams future corp looked good with him in it and it still looks good as of 3pm today without him.

I don't know why any time someone leaves our organization, everyone does the exact opposite of just wishing him well.

I would not be surprised if he pulls a Streit, comes here for a year goes home for a couple and then comes back with a better idea of what to expect and makes some team.
