In all the debate about the left side it's funny that noone mentioned Mark Recchi. He's miles ahead of Simon Gagne this season with 30 more points and an extra +6. Tanguay was on pace for 94 points.
Cory Stillman, LW 81gp, 25-55-80pts, +18
Alex Tanguay, LW 69gp, 25-54-79pts, +30
Mark Recchi, LW 82gp, 26-49-75pts, +18
Mike Ribeiro, LW 81gp, 20-45-65pts, +15 The soccer player Ryan Smyth, LW 82gp, 23-36-59pts, +11
Rick Nash, LW 80gp, 41goals-16-57, -35
Brendan Shanahan, LW 82gp, 25-28-53pts, +15 Simon Gagne, LW 80gp, 24-21-45pts, +12
Keith Primeau, C 54gp, 7-15-22pts +11 (on pace for 33 points, and a center anyways)
If you had just one roster spot for the world cup which one would you pick?
Tanguay easy... On a side note - why does Mark Recchi not get any publicity or consideration? Talk about consistent and dangerous. This guy is always scoring points and rarely gets any attention.
The right wing is probably the deepest position. There are a tonne of great right wingers out there, and Recchi seems to be the guy who they slot in there, but then as you bring up names like Iginla, Heatley, Doan, St. Louis... these guys are all better goal scorers than Recchi is, and I guess the thinking is the right side is the trigger side....
I can't believe Rick Nash is not the run away choice. I think he might be the biggest omission from the team. I wasn't really a fan of him up until this year but I watched a few games and in the little bit I did see him he impressed me more than any other player in quite some time. The kid is just DOMINANT plain and simple.
