Wow, this is like old times.

"Hear you Bruins got eliminated from the playoffs. Too bad. Hey, want a Norris nomination as a consolation prize? I mean, we used to do it with Orr and Bourque. It was the only way to keep your city running. So yeah, where's that big boy? Wear a nice suit at the Awards!"

All three are worthy nominees, but I suspect that Lidstrom will win it. To the guy who felt that Chara should not have been mentioned with Norris, I have to ask, did you watch the Habs v. Boston series? A guy with a torn labrum (sp? basically a very ****ed up shoulder) almost single-handedly brought the Canadiens vaunted PP from first to worst.

I'd say Lidstrom although he was injured for a few games (2 weeks was it?)

I don't get it. Are you suggesting neither Orr, or Bourque, were Norris worthy?

He's very good but doesn't belong in the three finalists.

Pierre McGuire was just on Team 990 and said that Markov/Gonchar would have been equally good nominations but that he figures Lidstrom is a lock anyways.

Chara played the last 2 weeks and the playoff series with a torn labrum. Come on now.

Phaneuf will have his day. Unfortunately a strong Wings team helps Lidstrom put a lock on things number wise

I'm sure that even you recognize that the 8-game sample against the Habs during the season wasn't exactly Norris-worthy.

No knocks on Chara that way. On the other hand there are lots of guys playing hurt.

can't say i think Chara will place higher than 3rd in that race though

Yeah but that's not a good basis to judge the Norris trophy. And all I'm really talking about are the people that are attacking his performance in this series. The guy had a Norris-type season and played his heart out in the playoffs with a torn labrum.

Him not being able to unload the slapshot from the point killed us and it could have been a different series otherwise. And I realize that "all teams have injuries" but I've had this injury (and the surgery) and you cannot use your rotator cuff without experiencing a ton of pain....and possibly making the injury worse.

Of course I watched it. And did you see how much of a pilon he was this season? Hurt or not.

Well I think he should get 2nd. But at this point its really the Lidstrom Trophy anyways. Chara will have to put together a few more years like this to win it.

Well the playoffs have no bearing on Norris discussion, so I'm just ignoring them.

I think Chara deserves the nomination (he's just ahead of Gonchar on my list) but should place no higher than 3rd. He had too many bad games -- even when healthy -- to be a true Norris winner.

That's just not true. Maybe in the Habs games he was bad, but you are the only person I know of to make this comment.

The guy was +14 and a team that was -10. Career high goals, points.

You forget how it works. If Chara played for Montreal he'd be legendary, a god, the best blueliner since Larry Robinson. Since he's in Boston, he sucks, he's terrible... its the mentality around here for some reason.

You could be right, but I've seen a lot of Phaneuf and the kid is really impressive. 60 pts and a plus 12

I say Lidstrom will once again win the trophy. Might as well rename it after him.... I'm a big fan of Chuck Norris, but naming a hockey trophy after him never made any sense.

You could be right. But the same thing could probably be said if Komi played for Boston the other way around

Frankly I don't like Chara but I respect his talent. There is no point pretending he sucks because you do not like the guy.

Sorry but I don't agree. Nabokov deserves it more than Brodeur does this season.
Nabby played more games, he had more wins and his save percentage and goals against is right there with Brodeurs.

Brodeur isn't the best goalie in the league anymore. He used to be the best goalie when New Jersey had one of the best teams, but now that they aren't quite as good...neither is Brodeur. Brodeur always benefitted from the Devils strong defense and their tight defensive game and now that they aren't as good....Brodeur isn't quite performing like he used to.

That's just my opinion. I like Brodeur but put him on a weaker team and he wouldn't have as good of numbers.

I do agree with the rest of your predictions. Ovechkin should clean up.

Lidstrom wins the Norris. And he should get some considerationf for the Hart. Did you see how the wings reacted with him out of the line up?

The guy might just be the best hockey player in the world right now.
